I actually like the extreme weather conditions of Queensland; one day (thankfully most days) the sun shines brightly, the next rain will be pouring down from the sky in unbelievable amounts.
In the last 2 weeks, we have seen quite a bit of rain, and combined with the high tides, the water is coming up to a level that we have not seen before. On Monday, we walked home from school through the park in water to our ankles, and some boys were playing in swimsuits at the playground that was completely flooded. This morning, as I was biking to my gym class, the road was flooded by 20 cms of water, and I had to take my shoes and socks off to get through .
The Queenslanders seem to be taking the flooding with a certain amount of good humour, and you can tell that this is nothing they have not seen before. At school there is actually an unwritten rule that on days with heavy rain or risk of thunder storms, you can pick up your kids anytime it is convenient so you can make it home before the roads close due to floods.
As you can see in the picture, the water is also coming closer to us, but we are still nice and dry and not worried as the weather forecast for the next 5 days is sun, sun and yet more sun .
