When enquiring about the rainy season in Queensland, I was told to expect the occasional tropical (= heavy) rain shower. But noone told me that these rain showers can last for up to 5 days!
The faithful readers of our blog would have noticed that on Feb 19, in my status report of our first month in Australia, I made a remark that we had 200 mm of rain in the bank for February. I should not have challenged the weather gods like that; the day after my birthday, the wildest thunderstorm came through town, leaving 80 mm of rain behind. As if that was not enough, the rain kept coming for 4 days and peaked with 200 mm on Saturday 25th (it rained so hard that I could not hear my own thoughts Friday night) - in total 400 mm in 5 days!.
Thankfully, the weather changed today and is now nice and dry. This is highly needed for both my mood and for our laundry pile (have you tried to dry laundry in 99% percent humidity?)
Stay tuned for a blog entry about our fantastic adventure in the Great Barrier Reef - we just got back and I have to get the pictures and all the experiences together. Turtles, hatchlings (baby turtles), snorkling, sharks, gigantic manta rays, bird poop, co-pilots....
