Hello all!!
Everything here is well!! Since I last made contact we have been doing a little more diving, the highlight of which being a set of two dives on which a hawksbill turtle swam almost into me, some huge barracuda, some huge crabs and a few sea slugs. Top Notch diving. Simon and Jen (and around 20 others) went over to an Island just off the coast of Utila, which cost 100 dollars-ish to rent, however I felt rather ill for a few days so had a few days in the sweat box of a room sweating it out. Once the illness was gone I met a bloke from the UK called Rob, who was a good laugh. We went out for a few drinks and ran into two sound girls from Sweden who we spent the next few days chilling out with!! We left Utila on Wednesday and caught the boat back over to the mainland, where we made our way on numerous buses to a place called Lago Yojoa in the centre of Honduras. We stayed in a place called D and D Brewery, which seems to be famous for its locally brewed beers, so we visited the lake in the aftenoon which was stunning, and in the evening had a few of the beers which were also nice.
The next day we had a small walk to a waterfall called Pulhapanzak Falls around 20 mins bus ride and a 15 min walk from the D and D Brewery. The waterfalls were meant to be special and we realized why when we arrived. Standing at 43 meters high the water was cascading over the top and smashing the gound below making some serious spray, which made the ground wet (which I found out when I nearly stacked it hard into the mud). After a good few posey photos in front of the waterfall we went back to the top to have a swim in the river feeding it (slightly sketchy as you needed to make sure you kept out of the rapids leading to the 43 foot waterfall drop!!) but it was refreshing as the temperature around midday was starting to get hot!!
Working our way back up to the main road, after a good swim, we caught a bus back north to San Pedro Sula, from where we jumped on yet another bus to a small town in the west of Honduras (on the border with Guatemala) called Copan Ruinas. Whilst waiting for the bus we ran into our Swedish friends who were heading the same way. We reached Copan Ruinas around 4 hours later, and all with sore bums due to the long days travlling made our way to Hostel En La Manzana Verde. That night was spent chilling out with some other people we knew who also turned out to be in the hostel.
The next morning waking bright and early we (Simon, Myself and the Swedish ladies) did the 20 min walk to Copan Ruins (Mayan Temples) just outside the town. The ruins were cool, but not anywhere near as impressive as those at Tikal, however there were numerous photogenic scarlet macaws, which were flying around, so that was awesome to see. That afternoon the Swedish girls left us again, this time to head north to Antigua, and left Simon and I in the Hostel with no electricity and no running water (due to a town wide power cut). Luckily one of the guys we knew there had a laptop so we watched a film with him until around 9 in the evening when the lights finally turned back on. What wih an early start the next day we were unable to make any use of he sporadic electricity, and therefore went to bed to get an early night's sleep.
Anyways Gracias tomorrow.
Howard and Simon
