Day 5 - 4 May 15
We woke up at 730am this morning. Breakfast was bread with peanut butter and coffee. With kids, morning takes longer than usual, having to consider factors such as showering them, feeding them and packing their food stuff to ensure that there are sufficient to last the whole day. We were prepared for all these and thus, our itinerary for the day wasn't at all ambitious.
Koala Conservation Centre was our first destination. We arrived at about 1020am. Two boardwalks were available - the Koala boardwalk and the Woodland boardwalk. According to the staff, there are a total of nine koalas but we managed to only spot four of them. As it was in the morning, there wasn't many people which meant that there was more than sufficient space for Le to easily meander his way on the boardwalk. The stroll on the boardwalk was more enjoyable (to me) than spotting the koalas and the cool weather of the morning simply made the experience lovely.
We proceeded to Phillip Island Chocolate Factory. This stop was unplanned and spontaneously decided after we gathered that we had ample time to kill before visiting the Churchill Island Heritage Farm. The experience of visiting the Chocolate Factory was amazing. It was less boring than what was hitherto thought under my impression. Aside from the usual explanation of how chocolate was made and how it all came about, there were interactive games for the kids and adults alike. We even saw the famous Michaelangelo's statue of David, all made of chocolate, to which I was really impressed. When the tour was over, we had lunch at the cafe; I had curry chicken with rice (a very rare option in Australia) and the must-have iced chocolate.
We left the Chocolate Factory at about 1pm for our next and last destination of the day at Churchill Island Heritage Farm. It was a less than ten minutes drive from the Chocolate Farm. This farm was different from any other farms; it was located on an island which was surrounded by stunning view of the ocean and the vast of greens. We regretted not having our lunch here instead of at the Chocolate Factory.
There were two main activities at the farm - the cow milking and the sheep shearing activities. For the cow milking activity, we needed to queue as there were many other tourists wanting to do the same. When it was our turn, Le backed out and so only both of us did the cow milking. We were about to leave when Le decided to want to give it a try again. So, we queued one more time and this time round, Le managed to milk the cow, though with some help from the staff to pull his tiny hand towards the teats.
The sheep shearing show was a tad boring. Plus, Le was already sleepy by then (it was 230pm in the afternoon). The shearer explained a whole load of stuff before getting into the action which took only less than 5 min.
How can we leave this farm without taking in its view and relishing in that moment of tranquility? We headed to the farm's cafe, ordered our drinks and cake, and chill alfresco. It was just a very pleasant family time spent at the table. The only thing missing is a nice piece of soothing jazz music to complete the experience. We took some more photos as we walked around the range, particularly with the beautiful shades of the blue sky and the calm waters, separated by the fine horizon.
We left the farm at about 430pm. We decided to pack dinner back home to eat. Chinese cuisine was our choice and there were several restaurants to choose from. We decided to try Wing Ho Chinese Restaurant as it was located nearer to where we stayed.
After dinner, we spent some time with the kids before putting them to bed. It was a really enjoyable day for both of us and the kids.
