Day 3 - 2 May 15
We set off at about 10-ish in the morning. The kids had their breakfast at Alice's place but we decided to have brunch outside. We drove to Crown and parked our car there. Thereafter, we walked to The Grain Store along Flinders Lane , a cafe recommended by Foursquare.
"You would have to wait for 45 min," said the lady staff at the cafe. Disappointed and thinking that it'd be a waste of time to just wait there for our seats, we searched for an alternative. There was one cafe, which was also recommended by Foursquare, but it'd need us to walk quite a distance. We gathered that we might as well wait as probably time wise, it wouldn't make much of a difference.
See, there was an outdoor area where there were seats available outside the cafe. We asked the lady if we could take one of those seats and sure we did, we managed to get one of them. Thank God and we ordered our food and drinks and had them all served to us in a jiffy.
Next, we made our way to the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium. It was an experience for Le as he saw the many different species of fish and other water creatures. There was an interactive section for kids where you could draw and design your own fish on a piece of paper, have it scanned by a machine and by some brilliant technology, they'd be projected on a huge piece of wall and like in an aquarium, the fish would be swimming "on the wall". Apart from walking through the directed paths, this activity was, in my opinion (and with the kids' I hope) one of the more entertaining ones in the aquarium.
After we left Sea Life Aquarium, we walked back to Crown. We went to the gaming arcade. There was the classic basketball shooting machines and we thought that might interest Le. It did interest him but we didn't have sufficient coins for him to play over and over again. Eventually, we played only one game and he just did his best to throw the balls into the hoop, though with little success. After all, it was an fun experience for him, to say the least.
We had very late lunch at Macdonald at Crown. When we were done, we drove for about 20 over minutes to The Abbotsford Convent. It used to be a holy precinct as the name "convent" suggests and its historical architectures are just so awesome. However today, it is used for commercial purposes and one of which is the operation of cafes and restaurants. I settled my coffee fix in one of the cafes called Convent Bakery. The cool weather just enhanced the coffee drinking experience. And how about a chocolate cake to go along? It was heavenly.
We drove back to Alice's place. It was 515pm in the evening. The kids played at a nearby playground before heading back. They also fed the ducks at one of the nearby river. As the sun was setting, they only managed at most half an hour before we all had to head home.
Dinner was pizza. Thanks to Alice and her hubby who drove out to pack them back. Post dinner was chit chatting for the adults while the kids watched TV or played with their toys (Alice's hubby rested as he was unwell). The kids really got along well. We did occasionally ensure that they were behaving, but they would also occasionally assure us that they were indeed by telling us what they were doing. No fret at all throughout the night.
We got ready to sleep by 9pm. We were exhausted but the trip has been enjoyable.
