Today was definately a tourist day discovering the delights of Beaune - doing two museums and a picnic in the park. A visit to the Hospice or Hotel Dieu started the day. With our audio guides on we went from room to room learning all about the foundation of the hospital for the poor which was funded by legacies which were then used to buy wine estates. There is still an annual auction of the Hospice wine to support the work of todays Hospital. The main hospital ward with 30 beds was beautifully recreated and you could just imagine the nuns going from bed to bed letting blood and other such gory ancient medical crafts. Our second museum the Musee Du Vin was not so interesting as there was no English translation and we were trying to work out what all the various wine artifacts actually did -hey ho.
A picnic lunch in the park was very relaxing with very friendly ducks and geese and a strange Zebra. The Flan natural was huge (Andrew) but the chocolate eclair (Lucy) was delicious - more normal fare than last nights snails.
