Hi Everyone,
At the moment were in a wee seaside town called Hervey Bay. We just got back from Fraser Island yesterday. It's the largest sand Isalnd in Australia. We had a blast! Had a really good group in our 4x4 two Irish sisters Anna and Emma, Gemma who has been on the Oz bus with us at a few stops, Tom and Richard and Hoggie and me. We were meant to have 3 American guys with us too but they decided they wanted their own car so we had lots of room in the jeep and the tents.
The weather was perfect. We went to Lake McKenzie the first day then set off to make our camp on the beach. We found a good spot and expertly made up our camp. Last tiem I was there I only saw one Dingo when wee were driving home on the last day but Fraser Isand Dingo population seems to have grown. WE saw about 7 the first night all round our tents, which was interesting.
We wondered what was going on until we realised the girls who had camped beside who had come over to sit with us had left a bag of cookies out, and their cool box(which Dingos can open) and all their tents open - pretty much everything you are told not to do!! So the Dingos were happy they got a bag of cookies, a packet of biscuits, 8 sausages, 4 burgers, 3 packs of ham, a tub of marg, 2 blocks of cheese ansd some chocolate. The girls survived on pasta, crisps, brad and salad the rest of the weekend.
The next day we set off when the tide went out and drove up to the maheno shipreck, Indidna Head, and Eilee Creek. We got soem good pics of them all so have a look for them soon.
Our second night camping wasn't completely Dingo free either , a few roamed about and they are so brave and cheeky one tried to take a packet of biscuits off our table right beside where Tom was sitting. He only managed to get the wrapper and by this point we moved our cookies and crisps onto the ground in front of us. The cheeky thing brazened out the fact 7 of us were standing around them and came right up and took the cookies.
The last day we went for a swim in lake Wabby and the back to Lake McKenzie before catching the ferry home, brilliant weather the whole weekend and lots of fun, but we were all desperate to wash the sand off of us when we got back to the hostel.
We're off for a few quiet syops in Rainbow Beach and Noosa then heading for Brisbane, hope everyonr is well. Speak to you soon.
Lots of love, S&H. xxx
