Hi Guys,
I am currently in Zion National Park, I have been here for two days now. I met up with my group on Tuesday in San Francisco, there is only four of us which is a bit strange but so far we all get on ok, Dan and I are the same age and then there is Trudy and Lillian who are a bit older (havent asked thought it would be a bit rude!! Hee Hee!!) and our tour leader Mike. At least we have loads of room on the bus!
We headed from San Fran to Yosemite National Park, camping just outside for three nights. The parks are really good and have a free bus service in them so you can get round really easily. The first day we did a walk to the Sequoia Groves which are the biggest trees in the world apparently!! That was really cool. The next day we headed out early (hiking at 7am!! A gasp I hear yep from me as well!!) to walk to Nevada Falls (1801m), which was really amazing, then we walked down to Emerald Pool and Vernal Falls. Least to say we couldnt walk after that.
On my birthday (thank you everyone for my lovely birthday messages), we drove to Glacial Point in which I saw a baby black bear and then I went for a walk to Mirror Lake and relax there for the afternoon, which was really nice and the weather is glorious. That night the group had bought me a birthday cake and put a 2 and 8 candle on which was great and got everyone from the camp to sing to me, which was very embarrasing!!
The next day we left to travel into the Nevada Desert, this was a whole day of driving, and vertually a whole day of sleeping for me!! Think the last 6 weeks are catching up with me! We drove along Extra Terrestrial Road and were very near the secret head quarts of US military. We stopped at a restaurant which had aliens and UFOs all over it, they were obsessed it was really funny as there was nothing else around for miles. We stayed at a lovely small campsite, we were the only ones there, it was so peacefull and the stars were amazing.
On Saturday we headed to Zion National Park, in which we went for a walk along the river and then into the river up the canyon (I have to say I whimpped out at this point as didnt want to break an ankle or get my shoes too wet!!). So I sat by the river and enjoyed the view before heading back to camp for a swim and some grub!
Today I was up early 5.30! to do a walk to angles landing in which you have to pull yourself up a small path with vertical drops on one side and only a railing to hold onto, I got a little way up before panic set in and I headed back to the viewing point 0.5 miles from the top! So now I am just relaxing and going to go for a swim in the 100 degree heat!
We head off tomorrow, I only have a week left in the US before heading to Ecuador I cant wait!
Hope all are well.
Love Hel
