Hi Guys,
Sorry I havent been on here for a while, I did the Freedom trail tour from New York to Washington, Niagra, The Berkshires, Boston and back to New York, we have mainly been staying in campsites so not had internet access.
Well were do I start, on the first day managed to get to my hotel without getting lost - Jill a mean feet you say and I will agree! Met up with the group, their was 12 of us on the tour including 2 tour leaders as one was training. There was people from UK, Oz, NZ, Korea, Denmark, France and Belguim. It was a good group and everyone seem to get on well. I didnt even get any remarks about being a scouser I was very surprised.
We travels to Washington first and stayed at a campsite called Cherry Hill, which had the biggest RV camper vans you have ever seen - and now I am quite keen to get one in Oz! Hee! Hee! As we were putting our tents up it rain....and rain........needless to say we werent very happy, but we managed it in record time and the tour leaders even managed to cook for us.
We went on a night time walk of Washington which was beautiful to see all the monuments and government buildings all lit up! Then went back to camp for a very cold and wet night......I thought I would end up with hypothermia it was so cold. The next day I went and bought the biggest warmest sleeping bag, needless to say my bag of DOOOOOOMM is now huge and has many array of things hanging from it!
The next day we went into Washington and saw what it was like in the day light, I was quite disappointed with it as it isnt very big for a city and there is not alot there, the White House looks tiny!! Although we did re-enact forest gump at the reflecting lake when he met up with Jenny!!
The next day we drove into Pensylvania to Aligany State Park to the Red House Lake, in which we set up camp. The camp had signs all around it warning of bears but it failed to tell us that racoons like to steal things!! "Burt" Racoon decided he liked Julias Bag and dragged it to the river from her tent and decided to empty it, including her purse, but made away with a bag of M&Ms and cookies! That night we went on a bear hunt but only managed to see eyes in the woods!! It could of been anything!!
From her we went to Niagra Falls, taking a detour to our team leaders home town to meet his relatives! Niagra is amazing, I didnt actually realise that it is two waterfalls, America Falls and Horseshoe Falls! We went on the maid of the mist tour and got very wet and cold! The weather is a bit like england at the moment and so is the scenery reminds me of the lake district.
As we had moan that we were cold and wet our leader managed to get us a log cabin for the night which was great as it had beds and heaters!! We slept like babys that night! We went over to Canada in the night to see the falls from that side, as we were waiting at border control we met a couple from Alabama who wanted to do a video footage of us for there show and tell at the church! We had to stand in front of the camera and say were we where from and our name! Going to watch out for it on the net! They also thought that Spain was in South America and Britain was part of the main land of Europe!!
We had a good night in Canada and went to a casino - dont worry mum I didnt bet!
The next day was Van Appreciation Day as we had a long drive to the Berkshires in Mass, in which we stayed in Tolleland Lake Park, it was a bit wet but the scenery was lovely and very peacefull, it was my teams turn to cook so decided on spag bol! Everyone loved it and we stayed around the bonfire!
We drove to Boston the next day and got to stay in a hostel, we did the freedom trail and then went and had a drink in cheers before dinner! Pete thought I had met the real "Norm" but it was only the card board cut out!! Hee Hee! It reminds me of Glasgow and Convent Gardens in London, it was a lovely city. We then went for dinner in which I avoided the CHEESE!! I know you doubt me Anoop but its true...I think you love the Cheese!! Then went for a bar for a few drinks.
Today we went to see the Boston Red Socks Stadium before returning to New York. I am back at the hostel now and the group has dispersed but a few of us our meeting tonight for dinner and drinks, looking forward to seeing New York in the Dark!
Well thats all for now speak soon, send me news!!
Love Hel
