Have had a few days focused on exploring the strip, the hotels, shops, and walking walking and oh! more walking! The weather is slightly cooler than I have been used to! - with it being winter the sun is lower in the sky and therefore we don’t feel the benefit of it for long and before you know it, the sun is behind a hotel and you are cold - none of the hotel pools are open, even if you did want to brave it out, you couldn’t!! The nights are pretty cold, so it’s preparing me perfectly for coming home!!
Got a cupcake from the cupcake ATM - which is still a thrill even after 5 years (when I did it the first time). Had to get a red velvet one of course - ending this holiday as I started! - eating cupcakes!
We have also been to the Vegas sign - we had to wait about 30 mins to take a photo as the queue was so long, but you have to do it, even if it’s just to watch the other people taking their photos/selfies over and over again trying to get the perfect one. The selfie phenomenon is totally lost on me, but I gave in and succumbed to Trish and got photos some taken that are probably the only ones of me from the whole 3 months!
I’m so glad I have got past the ‘buying tatt’ phase on this trip as there is so much available here to buy! I have managed to resist the tatt and - most impressively - I walked in & out of the Coke shop without buying anything. They have everything the Diet Coke addict (that I am) could wish for, and I didn’t buy ANYTHING!! Can’t promise that I won’t go back though!!!
We are both finishing each day knackered, feet sore, with stiff bodies and tight calves - you think you’re not walking much cause you are just exploring each of the hotels but you are actually walking lots. I know it sounds bizarre/mad/extremely annoying (you can hate me now!), but I’m ready to go home for a rest from this holiday!!
I found the Whole Foods in Vegas today! It was just up from the Vegas strip and it was a wee bit bizarre to have the madness of the strip just 5 mins away and then this supermarket with people doing their everyday grocery shopping. Two totally different worlds!
On another positive note ;o) I got a Diet Coke on my first night here from the deli in the hotel; at the time, the woman told me that it was refillable for more than that day, but I don’t quite think she took that to be as many times as I have refilled it (which has been everyday since I got it!!!). To say I am topping it up morning and night is an understatement - and I can’t express how happy I am to be getting all this free Diet Coke!! Simple pleasures and all that!!! Not sure what that says about me?
We are off to Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Horseshoe Bend over the next couple of day, basing ourselves in a wee town called Williams on Wednesday night. Am looking forward to it ;o)
