Friday we took a road trip down to Byron Bay, nice and easy 50 minute drive, even if people here don't seem to understand the overtaking rules for the right hand lane. We took a bit of a chance on the weather as although it was still hot it was quite cloudy and overcast as we got there. We found a car park a bit of a walk away from the centre but it was free all day so that was good, and headed to Twisted Sistas Cafe for a drink just as it started to drizzle. We couldn't resist a scrumptious coconut caramel slice between us too and settled for a very good cold vanilla milkshake. The drizzle continued for a good while so we went for a browse around some of the shops. A lot of surf shops, cafés, quirky gift shops and clothes shops about, we really like Byron and the relaxed beachy vibe! Soon enough the clouds cleared and we were hit with clear blue skies and a very hot afternoon on the beach! Time flew by. In no time it was 4pm, we had another look at a few select shops before they closed then dropped our stuff back of at the car. Came back in with just enough money for an ice cream (ferrero roche gelato!) and had a good stroll along the beach as the sun set.
Saturday we nipped out to Tweed Central and grabbed some baking ingredients from Coles, we set about making our first attempt at caramel slices, not a bad first effort went down pretty well.
Yesterday we went back to Sea world to see the dolphin show, jet ski show and the seal show which was very amusing as it didn't all go to plan with one naughty sea lion who wasn't interested in the script! 'Claude look in the water... Claude... Claude it's kind of important to the script if you take a look....okaaay..." *sea lion wanders off in the other direction and dives in the water* very funny! We saw the penguins, sting rays, dolphins, tropical fish and whaler sharks again and managed to take a few more pictures this time around the park.
After a very hot day in the park we went to surfers on the way back and had a look around the shops, grabbed a cheap $10 meal and a cider and spent a bit of time browsing the local markets set up along the beach front.
Today we had a very good relaxed brekkie of pancakes which only took about 6 goes to get a good one! Oops. Booked our diving in Cairns where we head up to in a week, and then headed to Robina for a final treat in Max Brenners. We were supposed to go to the creek but the weather was very cloudy so decided to leave that until tomorrow hopefully it will brighten up!
