At 7:00 am we landed in our last port of call, the small city of Ajjacio, capital of Corsica. Its claim to fame is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. It was a warm, sunny day, so we began another walking tour to see the sights. First, along the picturesque bay (see pic) then into some narrow side streets. We visited the church where Napoleon was baptized, including the baptismal font that was used. At the far end of our walk was a huge monument commemorating Napoleon. Lots of tourists, including some who climbed up on top of it, ruining everyone else's pictures. On the way back we went though the main town square, with its nice views of the sea and another statue of Napoleon and his four brothers.
Sherry and Evelyn went to look into
some shops, while Ron and I tried to find a sidewalk cafe on the same street for some refreshments. At the first two places we sat down, we were asked to leave, because we only wanted something to drink, not a full meal. First time that's happened on this trip and typically French!
After enjoying some beverages
at a place that finally welcomed us, we found the house in which Napoleon was born (just a plaque over the door). We then split up again and arranged to meet back on board the ship which was
sailing at 1:30. Ron and I walked along the ancient sea wall and by the marina back to the ship, while the girls visited some more shops.
We spent most of the rest of the afternoon out on the decks, as it was now sunny and in the mid twenties.
The evening performance was an ice show featuring nine skaters, four of which were Canadian (not surprisingly) and the others American and Russian. Ron and Evelyn somehow managed to
snag front row seats for us (best in the small rink!) and we enjoyed a spectacular show. We finished the day listening to some Latin music up in the Viking Crown lounge.

Jacques Michals Sounds like the Napoleon sites were kind of a disappointment, indicative of the enigmatic ruler Napoleon was. Maybe it was a good thing those restaurants asked you to move on, had you stayed for a meal they may have food poisoned you with raw meat or undercooked vermin. Too bad I am not there to get you and Ron into more trouble..... Herb, when do you arrive back home on the 28th? I have no one to bike with and the weather is improving.
Elisabeth Hey Jacques, why didn't you ask me to go bike riding with you? Are you afraid you wouldn't be able to keep up with me?
Erbs friend Sorry Elisabeth....style and who you ride with are important...I do not have a paper bike to match yours.....
Liz Ok,"Erbs friend", didn't realize you needed to have the same hairstyle to bike with you.
Erb's friend Yes, an aerodynamic hairstyle, with minimum Wind resistance,
