The sun accompanied us for the whole of our first full day in Guernsey, so we decided to start indoors!
Hauteville House, in St Peter Port, was the home of French exile Victor Hugo for 15 years, during which time he decorated it in his own unique style. Today was its final day of the season before closing for the winter, so it was now or never. The decor is not to my taste, but stunning none the less. The most stunning aspect, however, was the view from the top of the house. Originally a servant's bedroom, Hugo made it his so he could make the most of the scenery.
Then we set off for a little drive around the island, stopping at various points to drink in the fantastic views, including St Sampson Harbour and Vine Castle, Pembroke Bay, Cobo and Saline Bay, Fort Hommet and L'Eree Headland with views across to Lihou Island.
Then we headed back to The Manor for tea.
Driving around the island the maximum speed limit is a mere 35mph, and just 25mph in towns, which suits the nature of the roads.
Today we drove just 40 miles.
