Our final day in Perth. Off to Kings Park primarily to see the fantastic view of Perth, see the fabulous Botanical Gardens and the War Memorial. If you are ever in Perth this is a must do visit.
The big event in Perth was the imminent visit of the Queen as part of CHOGM (no we were none the wiser about what this was but it is Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting). Essentially the whole of Perth would come to a halt so as we were leaving the next day we were glad to not be inconvenienced by it. One feature of CHOGM was the massive "PERTH" sign in the city visible from King Park but as usual Nicola missed it completely until she was 50 yards away.
Following lunch we went on the Swan River Cruise to Fremantle and back. It offers a different view of the city and highlights included the Swan Brewery which was the first place Uncle Guy found work 100 years ago on arrival in Australia (looking after the horses pulling the brewery carts), the homes overlooking the river (one a bargain at $56.9m!!) and Fremantle's busy inner harbour.
We managed to see the Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook's famous ship and also make the most of the free wine tasting on board.
Home for tea and rain, the same forecast for Uluru in the desert tomorrow :-( followed by a quick computer lesson for Beryl and pack ready to leave early in the morning.
We will be very sad to leave our wonderful hosts who have made the start of our visit to Australia so memorable.
