Awoke in the guest wing of the Ted & Beryl hotel. Great facilities and the staff were up and about preparing breakfast long before the guests surfaced.
First stop is the shops for some essentials. Worked out the requirements for posting my parachute to Skydive Nagambie, purchased a PAYG phone while Nicola was increasing her stock of knickers and wine, a must for any travelling female. We nearly ended up in the Police station as well as the assistant had not given her the receipt!
We were then given a tour of the coastal points of interest including Hilary's Harbour, Trigg beach, Cottesloe sans sharks and then onto Fremantle.
Fremantle is the port for Perth and was the first port of call for all immigrants to Australia until the mid 1970s. This is the landing for Uncle Guy (Eileen & Beryl's father) in 1911. It was very sobering to look at the vast array of names of immigrants and contemplate the stories behind each one, the reasons for moving and the subsequent events in this relatively new country.
The Maritime Museum was very informative and contains the yacht Australia II that was the first successful non-American boat to win the Americas Cup. The other amazing exhibit was the boat Jon Sanders used to sail THREE times non-stop around the world single handed in 1986. Loads of great facts including the amount of Vegamite taken (50 jars) and that Johnsons Baby Shampoo is the only one to remove salt from your hair!!
A late lunch of fish & chips was followed by a short visit to Kings Park and stunning views of Perth.
We visited Eileen & Phil in their new house near Perth to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Really beautiful and happened over a short time period
