Day 2 broke to heavy rain which dampened our enthusiasm for an early start so a late breakfast saw us take our ferry back to Circular Quay to catch another across the harbour to Taronga Zoo where we landed around midday.
The zoo is located on a steep slope making it ideal for a cable car transit from the landing stage to the main gate.
While our main focus was to locate as many Australian animals particularly the ones we have not seen in the wild already, we saw giraffes being fed, entertaining shows from seals and birds and a view of the newly born tiger cubs that are now 3 months old.
The list of Australian natives included a platypus, kookaburra, koala and the illusive cassowary.
Overall it is a while since we have visited a zoo and we enjoyed the time spent there. Although not particularly extensive it was well laid out and included stunning views of the city.
We suddenly realised timings would be tight if we were to make the performance of Julius Caesar at the Opera House so it was a breathless couple that managed to walk in just before the doors closed. Unlike the night before we were entertained to a thrilling performance and were privileged to have been part of the sellout audience.
The Opera Bar provided a fitting end to the day with a super band playing great music on a clear night overlooking the harbour and bridge.
