Set the alarm (05:00) for yet another early morning to see the sunrise at Cape Byron, the most easterly point on the Australian mainland. We managed to bag the last parking spot to save a lot of uphill walking and arrived at 05:35. Dawn was timed for 05:47 but the sky was already light when we took our position along with a small number of like minded nerds. Unfortunately there was cloud on the horizon and clear skies above so it was not destined to be a vintage show but hey we have done it!!
Returned to bed and had an extended lie in. Breakfast again was great with fresh fruit starter and fruit bread toast. We are certainly spoilt - Burns at Byron is the ONLY place to stay in Byron Bay but don't tell too many people or we may not be able to book it next time we are here.
The day then turned into an admin day booking accommodation and visits for the remaining portion of the Australian leg. We have had some difficulty finding a place to stay in Adelaide for some reason. It would appear that the same would be true for Byron Bay as there are 32 weddings on Friday. Apparently the omens are good as it will be 11/11/11 AND a full moon. It must be true as it is also my birthday!
Sydney accommodation will also cost us an arm and a leg but we have managed to book a central location.
Went for a swim when the sun had done it's worst and the heat output was greatly reduced. Nicola hoped the same would be true for the sea but the surf was as strong as yesterday and meant she did not endure too long. She still managed to ingest her daily quota of salt in 10 minutes.
The outside shower in the garden proved to be a great rejuvenator. Back to Fish Mongers (now our favourite) for prawn and rice c/w soy sauce and side order of chips, yummy.
