A leisurely start to the day. Breakfast is a selection of fresh fruits (mangos, pineapple, kiwi fruit, melon) with yogurt and toast from a selection of breads. I was already on my 5-a-day before 09:00!
We completed a walk around Cape Byron starting at Craigs Beach and walking up the beach from The Pass along Wategos Beach and Little Wategos Beach onto the point. This is very dramatic with surf crashing all around. From there we walked up the headland to the eastern-most point and then upto the lighthouse. From here you can see both Byron Bay and the beaches in front and also the equally impressive but less popular Tallows Beach on the eastern coast. The trail then takes a more vegetative route wending it's way south before dropping west and back to the starting point. In all it took us 3 hours but we did spend some time admiring the surf on the point.
Back to base for cheese and biscuits ( and to let the sun drop a bit) before heading to Main Beach for some fun in the surf. Unfortunately for the surfing dudes the sea is not great as the wind is quite strong and is killing the waves and consequently there was no sign of the bronzed masses. This is fortunate for me as I would definitely pale (in more ways than one) in comparison.
I took along the snorkel, mask and fins which allowed me to see some sand coloured fish close to the shore as well as a solitary stingray the size of my hand. Great given the swell and sand. It just does to show what lurks beneath!
Back to Burns and this time a chance to try out he garden shower with the wife! Awesome. Every house should have one!
Tonight we tried eating at Thai Lucy's. A nice curry but not as good as the meal at Fish Mongers, perhaps we have been spoiled.
