Hello!
I thought I would leave a quick note on here as we saw an internet cafe and had a couple of things to sort out.
Wow! what a fantastic city. We are having a great time in Singapore, it is incredibly clean and modern, with beautiful builidings and a really nice atmosphere. We are only here for a quick stop off but have had a fantastic time so far.
After a rather hairy taxi ride from the Airport we arrived at our hotel which the 'rents have treated us too. It is absolutely fantastic, really plush and clean...me and Tom looked like a right couple of scruff bags, but that was before we got to the room. When we got to the room, we first marvelled at the view, and then proceeded to use ALL of the free stuff; slippers, dressing gown, soaps drank tea, and green tea...put the tv on, and all the lights, checked out all of the cupboards...so yeah that kept us occupied for a good hour or so! We then absolutely crashed out and slept like the proverbial baby.
The next day we were up good and early and headed down to chinatown. It is an incredibly colorful place full of beautiful temples and 'Hawker markets'. We had our lunch in one of these which was an experience. We drank Sugar Cane juice which was delicious, and had some Wanton Noodles. It was an interesting as we were the only white people there and a good foot taller than most! But we followed the crown to a stall, and figured of the locals liked it...so would we!
Following this we headed ot Orchard Road, which is there shopping district. The Singaporeans REALLY like to shop and this road had about 10 malls on it, all the size of the Reading Oracle. We counted about 5 Marks and Sparks, which Mum would have loved!
In the evening we headed to a restaurant called the Satay Club on Clarke Quay which was DELCIOUS! A definite must for anyone coming here...they Satay everything and it is just yummy.
Today we went to the Colonial distant district and looked around all of the old English buildings and then headed up to Raffles hotel and had their infamous Cocktail the ''Singapore Sling'' (yes this was still before 12). Then this afternoon we headed over to Little India, which I was quite disapointed with...it really is a bit of a slum.
A note on the weather...it is so hot you could lose about ten pounds just walking out the front door and every couple of hours it rains so hard the roads turn to rivers...but its all good fun!
Sorry this has been a bit of a list, in a little bit of a hurry but will update again soon!
Hope you are all well,
Liz and Tom xx
