This is Georgia.
Awake most if the might while the locals partied outside our home stay in Sighnaghi. Off to the monastery we walked to yesterday. Closed. Sunday mass. Then to an old castle from 13th century at Gremi. A centre on the Silk Road but it's high point was the 15th century. There is is the 1400's had a lot to answer for. We the went to a local winery which makes their wine in a traditional method in underground vats using all the grape and stems. After putting the wine into the vats it is sealed with wax and the mud until deemed ready. Had a great local Georgian lunch with wine tasting. Walked to a museum which was a lovely old house originally belonging g to prince Alexander Chavchavadze, poet and anti tsarist. More wine tasting from this winery called Tsinandali. The black wine is great. A very dark red which can be anything from dry to a semi sweet blackberry chocolate tasting one. Would be great with dark chocolate and sting cheese. Then to the monastery at Alaverdi which is famous for it bees and honey. We are lucky our Georgian guide is a very respected archeologist who does guiding for overlanders just for interest. A great Sunday drive with lots of wine tasting. Our home stay is an ex Russian style villa. Most comfortable. Nearly luxurious.
