Helen's Silk Road
This is Georgia.
Set off to the monastery of David Gareja Over the Caucasus mountain (to 1600m) which are just beginning to turn with the autumn colours. Our guide Zaza is great. His brother was the first monk after the soviet era 1990 and is now the bishop of the monastery and area we were in yesterday. The monastery is on the side of the mountain in a more arid area. So it has water harvesting channels and cisterns which were extensive enough for agriculture as well. Onwards with our guide taking us on a short cut past the army camp down the mountainside, past the ruins of the soviet collective farm to our camp. We have done over 13000 kms to date
