We woke up at 8am, packed our stuff and checked out at 8.45am. We made our way to the lovely Changi Airport via the MRT. We had breakfast at a chinese restaurant, Jay had braised beef in noodle soup and Helen had fried noodles with prawns. We both shared a mango pudding (as usual we enjoyed our breakfast). We checked in our bags at 11am then browsed around the airport and spotted a place that sold kaya toast (Singaporean toast) which we wanted to try. Kaya is a light green spread that taste like honey.Jay had a peanut butter kaya toast and Helen had a french toast with kaya and a Singaporean tea made with lemon cherry tart which is like a thick cream, condensed milk and tea. They pour the tea high in Asia.
Our plane was 40 minutes late, we arrived in Phuket at 2.17pm local time. (Thailand is 7 hours ahead of UK time) The temperature was hot and humid. We got the minibus which cost 150 THB each. The scenery of the journey to Patong looks very tropical with palm trees and other tropical trees surrounding the road. The road is also windy. We saw kids on scooters with their parents presumerably.
We checked in at The Ramaburin resort at 5pm, luckily there were rooms available. We chose the cheapest room which was a private air conditionned bungalow costing 2754 THB each for 6 nights stay. The room is basic and spacious but the decoration of the room is outdated. Jay bought a bottle of Chang beer to have in the room.
Jay went out to get some snacks as we were peckish, he got some Tim Tam chocolate biscuits (similar to penguins chocolate bar), coconut peanuts and a Leo beer. Jay had also changed our left over Singapore dollars into Thai Bahts.
We explored the near vicinity, Jay showed Helen the street across from the promenade. This street is a very long line of fake designer goods, DVD shops, bars and restaurants. We looked around Bangla Road, this crazy road is full of 'go go' bars, lady boys, clubs and bright neon lights. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat.
Whilst walking pass some of the stalls, most of the local shop owners thought Jay is Australian where they put on an Australian accent when speaking to him. Helen thought this was amusing.
We went to the 'Lone Bar' (60 baht bar), Jay had a bottle of Chang and Singha beer and Helen had a Tiger crystal light beer with lime. After this we went to one more bar called 'Savoey' where Jay had two mugs of draught Singha and Helen tried a Thai whisky called 'Meakhong', it was very strong and smooth. On the way back to our resort we tried a pineapple chocolate pancake, this cost 40 THB and was yummy!
