We had our complimentary breakfast at 'Long Beach Lodge' resort. Jay had the pork rice soup and Helen had the chicken rice soup. We also had fresh fruits to share. We both loved the rice soup as it was full of flavour.
After breakfast we hired a scooter for 200 THB (4 pounds), it was a pink Honda Click model. We set off to 'Wat Laem Suwanaram' Temple (over 100 years old) where the 'Jao Mae Kuan Im' was (chinese lady monk statue). When we had finished looking around the temple, we headed to the 'Big Buddha' statue which is the most famous landmark of Koh Samui. Here we saw a Thai monk blessing a Thai person with holy water using incense sticks. After watching them, the monk invited us over to him, asking us whether we wanted to be blessed aswell. We went over one at a time to be blessed and donated money to the temple. After this we walked up the 73 steps to see the 'Big Buddha' statue. When we got back down we browsed a stall selling holy gifts, in this stall we saw the same monk that had blessed us. He gave us a lucky wristband each.
On the way back to our resort, we got drenched by the heavy downpour, we got off the scooter looking like drowned rats and to add to that our room was freezing cold from the air conditioning so we took a much needed hot shower. After recovering from our initial soaking, we got wet again as we decided to ride the scooter to get to 'The Islander' restaurant for lunch, this was only a 10 minute journey. We both had 'Chiang Mai Noodles' which was yellow curry with chicken on a bed of crispy noodles. This was really tasty. Jay had a pint of draught tiger beer to drink and Helen had a 'White Russian' cocktail which was made very strong.
Late afternoon we enquired about flights to Laos through our resort's tour operator. It cost us 112 pounds each to fly from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang. This was alot cheaper than booking from the UK. After this we went back to our room as the rain was still coming down heavy. The lady at the tour operator told us that there was a storm system that was causing the prolonged rainfall.
We somehow fell asleep until 11pm! When we woke up we did not realise it was so late. Jay was hungry so he went out to find something to eat whilst Helen was treating her mosquito bites as she was not hungry. Jay could not find much to eat as it was so late in the evening so he ended up with a McDonald's meal (not exactly what he had in mind).
