"A Picnic in the. Park"
Our penultimate day in Australia found us packing a picnic and heading for Kings Park. We spent a couple of hours here last month and vowed to return if we could.
Over looking the city of Perth and at over 1000 acres there is plenty to see and do. The spring flowers were looking at their absolute best under the blue skies as we walked through the botanic gardens, over the treetop walks, climbed the tower for fab views and then plunged in to the bush walks. There is a big court case happening in Perth at the moment. A prominent solicitors wife went missing and was eventually found buried in Kings Park. He pleads innocent but is on trial for her murder. We found nothing sinister lurking in the bush only the chatter of butcher birds, lorikeets and galahs. The pink and white Galahs are Australia's most common parrot. It is said they can be eaten and the best cooking method is to boil the galah in a pot with a stone and when the stone is soft you throw the galah away and eat the stone!
Thankfully we had brought crusty rolls and Australian ginger pop for our picnic which we enjoyed in a leisurely fashion along with many others overlooking the water gardens.
Honiton seems a different world away today but as we lie on our backs looking up at the planes coming in and out of Perth airport, David talks about getting back to golf and I am writing the Memory Cafe annual report in my head thinking about how to improve the profit margin in the hospital shop and hoping HDFAS have a good lecture tomorrow. It is absolutely lovely here but I think we are ready to come home to all our friends and family.
