Another early start as one of us forgot to change the travel alarm to W A time! All breakfasted and ready to go by 8.30am we decided to take Bunty's Mercedes out and get used to it on the quiet Sunday morning roads. Heading west we soon arrived in the port of Freemantle, parked up and followed the roars we could hear to Freemantle Football Oval. Joining cheering parents, we passed an exciting half hour watching the Western Australian under 13's championship final of Aussie Rules Football. This country really is football crazy at the moment.
Moving on we found the Sunday market and made a few essential purchases including a hand made boomerang (the returning kind). We were given a fast track lesson and some written instructions so looking forward to trying it out when we get home. Will probably lose it in the river first throw! (boomerang throwing is a whole new sport to understand I'll save that for another day)
The temperature by now had risen to over 30 so we popped into the Maritime Museum for a history lesson on the importance of sea trading for Western Australia and a cool down. We enjoyed Freemantle and hope to come back again before we leave for some more exploring.
Today though we moved on to Perth City Centre to find a Telstra shop and get the iPad fired up with 3G using a local sim card. Now we can email and access the internet even without wifi if we have mobile phone reception. Amazing.
Our last stop for today was Kings Park a wonderful space right in the heart of the city. With wild flowers ablaze we drank tea looking over the city and the river feeling that this was indeed a day well spent.

Kate Gosh it sounds just as great as it did 40 years ago. I loved Fremantle colleague took there cos it had Antique Shops - had a job to keep a straight face when the items displayed were over 20 years they said !!!!! The park was stunning I remember with all those wild flowers that are labelled exotic here for use by the great flower arrangers. Have you been on a wine tasting tour up the valley yet ? Pretty potent stuff as I remember especially when you tried a glass at each tempting little plantations. How are you going to settle down after this
