Hayley & Mark's Travels
Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the delay on journals. As previously said we have had some difficulty with the site, but thankfully everything is back up and running.
Thailand was great, and although we spent 3 weeks there, there was plenty more to see. Definetly worth a visit back.
Started our travels in Bangkok, which was great, definetly one of the better cities that we have been to.
The shopping is graet and of course me and mark had a bit of a shopping spree.
Whilst in Bangkok we visited the Royal Palace which was spectacular. Unfortunetly we were unable to visit the Emerald Buddha that day as the King of Thailand was there so some of the grounds were closed off. Even so the trip was definetly worth while.
We also spent the evening going to see Mahi Thai Boxing was was really fun. We had ringside seats so the view was excellent. We watched a total of 12 fights with competitors ageing from 13 upwards. Luckily we went on the best night, due to a huge fight taking part, newspapers and camers crews where filming- so you never know me and mark could of been on Thai TV.
Stayed down the notorious strip Koh San Road whilst in Bangkok. Famous for its nightlife and backpackers. Me and Mark didn't really like it. Dirty and full of idiots.
After Bangkok we headed south to Phuket which was lovely apart from the odd day of rain. Still alot of construction taking place due to the affects of the Tsunami. Hotel right on the beach and right round teh corner to restuarants and some bars.
Stayed in Phuket for 3 days and then headed to Koh Phi Phi.
Koh Phi Phi was beautiful with a really laid back feel about it. We stayed in raelly nice beach hut bungalows a few hundred metres from the beach. In the evenings we would go to the beach bar and sip cocktails and watch the sunset- lovely. Whilst in Koh Phi Phi we visited Maya Bar ( where the film the 'Beach' was set). Spent the day snokelling in the crystal clear waters and sunbathing on the soft white sand.
After a couple of days in Koh Phi Phi, we decided to go to Krabi a hour long ferry trip. We stayed on Toi San a little bay off the mainland. We stayed in little wooden bungalows in the middle of the rainforest. It was really beautiful. Reggae bars lined the beach- Toi San definetly had a hippie feel about it.
We left for a deserted island 'Koh Pu'. Its in the middle of the ocean in between Krabi and Koh Lanta. Again we stayed on stilted bungalows with only teh company of a few other travellers and a little resturant to go to when hungry apart from that completly isolated from the rest of the world. Unfortunetly for us we got quite a shock when in the middle of the night mark discovered a huge hairy spider on the wall of our room. I couldn't look at it but mark assured me it was the biggest spider he had ever seen. We got a member of staff to dispose of the spider. Mark and the man went back up to the room to kill the spider with a broom. Mark informed me that just as the man was about to kill the spider, the spider reared up on its leg and aggresively opened its mouth to reveal its large fangs. Arrgghh. Luckily we havent come across anything like that since. We stayed on more night after that but decided we didn't want to spend anymore time with the creepy crawlies so we left for Koh Tarutao.
Unfortunetly it wasnt as easy as we had hoped. We stayed over in a town called Trang and the next morning we headed to PakBara to catch the ferry. Koh Tarutao is a National Marine Park. When arriving on the island we decided that it would be quite fun if we camped out for the 2 nights that we were going to stay on the island. We found a lovely beach and pitched up tent. We settled in for the night. The next morning we woke up around 7am by the sun beaming down on our tent. We got up and decided to find a nice spot to sunbathe. We found a 3km white sand beach with lovely clear water. We were the only ones on the beach all day. Infact we were the only people that we saw whilst on the island apart from a few locals. We relaxed on hammocks and had showers in the forest.
Unfortunetly time was running out and we new that we had to go to Malaysia. We had hoped to go to another island but we couldn't.
We left Thailand and arrived in Malaysis via Ferry.
Will write soon with more updats to our time in Malaysia.
Much Love

P.S Martin and Allsion have contacted us and informed us that the polictiacl unrest has stopped 25/4 and that it should be fine for us to continue our travels in to Nepal. He has advised up to keep checking up on the internet but they don't see any reasons why we shouldn't go.
