We have just finished a lovely three days of relaxing in the small Argentinian beach resort of Villa Gesell; 5 hours south of Buenos Aires. We stopped in a small campsite just outside the town with easy access to the beach and the resort via a local bus. We was lucky to get into this campsite as the town was busy with Argentinian holiday makers as I think it is some kind of holiday period. We was turned away from the first campsite as it was too full! We haven't been doing a great deal; just abit of sun bathing on the beach and as the campsite had lots of BBQ areas we have over-indulged in meat! I learnt enough Spanish to muddle my way through the local butchers to ask for steak and sausages. As im not good with measurements however, 1 kilo of steak we found was quite enough! Jonathan was fairly happy with this miscalculation as this large amount only cost £4 and then he also got to show me his caveman skills and built a fire... and kept it going without using any charcoal! He was in his element gathering the mounds of firewood! Anyway the resort was lovely and contained little beach shops, bars and restaurants. I think we hit this town just in time for the weather as upon taking down the tent this morning the rain clouds started rolling over. Jonathans decided camping isnt his first love after he had three more nights of not sleeping too well! This campsite also contained some of the largest frogs we have ever seen! Unfortunately I didnt get a photo of them but they was easily twice the size of my hand! (probably the same size as a Guinea Pig!) To get to our next destination, Puerto Madryn we had to go to the next town along: Mar Del Plata. This is two hours further along the coast and we did think about stopping over; However I'm glad we didn't as 1 day in this town is quite enough. It's like an Argentinian Blackpool and is not the prettiest place we have visited so far. It's charm is as gloomy as the weather and probably wouldn't have been much more attractive in the sunshine. We arrived at 12 noon and the bus is at 8pm tonight so we have had a good walk through the town and promenade and we are now awaiting our next 16 hour bus journey. We are heading into northern Patagonia tonight so we are really looking forward to this as we will hopefully see some wildlife! Hayls and Jonathan x
