Koh Samui
Mark's 31st Birthday!
KIM: Champagne breakfast on the terrace with the waves crashing below - such a perfect start. We had had our muesli and were about to order our eggs and pancakes when the music shifted and out walked the team of zen-like waitresses singing happy birthday with a big chocolate birthday cake! I'm not sure who was more embarrassed, me or Mark… but just like the spur, they sung to the end and the whole restaurant clapped along. At least Mark got his birthday cake as he missed it last year.
The weather in Koh Samui is not improving and although there are small bursts of sunshine, unfortunately the long blissful days at the swimming pool are not being had. Not to worry, when there's a bit of cloud cover, there's the La Spa Zen. WOW! What a truly amazing spa experience. We started with a questionnaire and where asked what colour we were feeling? (KIM: Yellow, Mark: Blue). This helped the therapist to decide on which aromatherapy oil we'd be having in our massages. Mine was XXX (can't remember name) and Mark got ginger which, once he smelt it, changed his colour to yellow too. Showered and changed into our silk robes and some of the best disposable undies that actually are comfortable (too much information) we were led off to our separate therapy rooms - which suited us fine. Mark has a habit of falling asleep and snoring during massages! 90 blissful minutes later, we was served warm tea and green tea cake (which we promptly had two pieces of each!) Back to our villa, Mark blew out his candles and we ate chocolate cake with coffee. A divine lunch!
A candlelit dinner with the Thai Discovery Menu, we opted to have cocktails in the lounge/bar terrace first. A fantastic Mojito and Capirinia, followed by a Manhattan and the Kaffir Del Mar (yes, that's ACTUALLY what it was called) we were tipsy and ready for dinner. What we weren't expecting was there to be 5 courses with two main dishes (not to choose from, actually to have both!) We settled into our meal and decided on water as apposed to any more alcohol. The food was out of this world. Some of the best we had eaten in Thailand I think. Ending off with chocolate, coconut and banana springrolls - we were beyond bursting as we stumbled back to our lovely room.
