Siem Reap > Phnom Penh
KIM: After shopping around we'd booked our bus transfer to Phnom Penh. Our last big breakfast, we were sitting in the minivan going from guesthouse to guesthouse collecting everyone for transfer to the make-shift bus station somewhere just out of town. A really delightful bus awaited us with the comfiest seats ever... it made the 6 hour journey to Phnom Penh really comfortable and we arrived a lot quicker than I thought 6 hours would pass.
As per usual, we arrived into a depot outside of town and had to take a tuk tuk into town, this becoming a regular occurrence and even more so of being taken to a guesthouse that probably pays our driver some commission. Finally getting rid of our driver (who even once we were on foot still followed us plaguing us with suggestions for guesthouses!) we realized we had done little in the line of research into where to stay, and discovering Phnom Penh was quite a large city, we Mark left me to a beer at Riverside Bistro with the luggage (which has severely increased in weight... and we haven't even done presents shopping yet!) and went out in search of somewhere to stay. Cyclo Hotel close to the National Museum, a large room with a price tag to match (although not as high as it could be!) and we were all checked in and showered.
A quick phone call to Jerry the legendary tuk tuk driver as Ian told us he would be, to arrange for tomorrow and we were out to try and find somewhere for dinner. We discovered Anjali restaurant and were happy for it - cheap drinks and huge portions!
