27 November
Phnom Penh > Bangkok
MARK: Day has been pretty much the same as yesterday, with a nice chilled breakfast at Fresco Cafe underneath The FCC (Foreign Correspondence Club). We've just walked past the Royal Palace which is quite an impressive sight, but the King wasn't at home as there was no Blue Flag flying... A few beers at the FCC substituted as a liquid lunch for today (fine by me!) as we're finding Cambodia pretty expensive on the whole and are trying to keep costs down somewhat... Jerry our Tuk Tuk driver is picking us up at 3pm and then it's off to the airport and back to Bangkok and Shambara Guesthouse. We may go to a 'ping-pong' show this evening in Patpong area, but it all depends on how late and tired we are when we get back...
UPDATE: No visit to Patpong this evening as we did indeed get back quite late. Arrived at Shambara Guesthouse to discover they had mis-booked us for the wrong dates. They expected us on 26th even though we had prepaid for the 27th. It turns out the receptionist whom we booked with is a bit 'slow' (nice way of saying she's a retard!). Ning (normal receptionist) apologized profusely and phoned up a mate in another Guesthouse called At Home Guesthouse just around the corner, and booked us in there for 2 nights. Tired and not really too bothered about it, we unpacked, grabbed a Subways 12-incher and went to bed.
KIM: Mark, speak for yourself. At home guesthouse is nothing like the oasis of Shambara. Gutted. Ning kindly offered us free breakie (coffee and toast with jam) in the morning, and considering we're saving 100 baht a night, coupled with an actual en-suite I suppose I can't complain. Also, I think we should add that the 'slow' receptionist is currently studying to become a doctor. Please let me never need an emergency operation in Thailand. Touch wood.
