So this weekend we had a weekend away in Rhodes which is a tiny village in the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains. After 6 hours of travelling and a sore bum from the 80kms of dirt road, we arrived.
The house we stayed in was like stepping back in time, there were photos on the wall from as far back in 1918. I real felt cold for the first time in a long time and I spared a thought for everyone back home freezing in the next ice age.
The night sky in Rhodes was very impressive; the Milky Way was so clear and the starts so bright. I even saw my first shooting star.
Undoubtedly the highlight if the weekend was having my first bath since I left the UK- it was delightful. I also had the first bit of decent cheese since I left. There are some things that South Africans can do well like cheap wine but (generally) the one thing they CANNOT DO is cheese! It was an emotional experience to taste real cheese once again but I must admit, there is nothing like a block of Cathedral City mature cheddar. It's the first thing I'll be grabbing to eat when I return (take note mum.)
Ps: As I entered civilisation once again I found the closest thing South Africa has to Baileys for only R86, it was a very happy day.

Mum Sounds idyllic! I always have at least two blocks of Cathedral City mature cheddar in the fridge....no worries there!!
Nanny Wendy & Grandad John Great pictures, clearly having a great experience. Like the blogs, keep up the litter picking there is plenty of scope back here to continue the good work!
