This morning we boarded a train to go to Venice. We had to get up early to catch it. It was a very hot day and we did lots of walking. I liked Venice. The city was in water. There were a lot of Gondolas floating in the canals. There were lots of little shops selling masks. Venice is famous for its mask festival before Lent. Venice wasn't what I expected because I thought water would be everywhere but it wasn't. There were many little footpaths and bridges. We went to a bookshop with very old books. The books were stacked in boats in case the shop flooded because the shop was nearly at water level. There were stairs made of books that we walked on. The bookshop was very different. We also went to a special shop that sold old fashioned ink pens and stamps that were called 'seals'. I had a turn of using a 'fountain' pen of wood. A man showed me how the seals worked. I used my money that I had saved to buy a stamp set. Lily bought a letter and a symbol like me to use with the wax and the stamp. We raced back to the train after 4 hours of walking. We just made it before it left. Lucky the conductor saw us running or it would have left without us. We arrived back in Lignano at 4pm. We got some free bikes and rode to the beach. There were lots if people. It was the busiest beach I has ever seen. The sun chairs cost money so we sat on the sand like we do in Glenelg. We swam, the water was warm. We went on the sun chairs at 5.30 because the beach office was shut. We saw 2 huge jelly fish. They were see-through with purple edges. Dad took a photo if it. We rode back to the hotel. We went out for dinner. I had a yummy fish.
