In the past month and a half I have been to so many fantastic places that I was gutted to have to leave behind but was still able to pack up my bags and get on the coach. However, Im currently in Airlie Beach and unable to physically see myself being able to move my bags anywhere outside of this town - unless it is on a boat to the Whitsundays. My stomach is in a huge knot at the moment (however I cant say whether that is purely because I cannot move myself from this amazing place or because I only got off our boat an hour ago and im still having balance issues!)
I cant quite explain why I love this place so much. I have definately been to other places which have been even more stunning but it just feels so right for me to be in this place. So basically, the thought of moving back and living in England again petrifies me and moving out to Australia is looking more tempting and like a whole lot less work.
So anyway, enough of my wishes to live here - we spent Sunday in Cairns and then met up with the Irish and Scottish guys I met in Kuala Lumpor - turned out they were staying at our hostel so we all went out to this club called the Wool Shed and had a pretty awesome night in general! unfortunately the place stayed open very late so sleep didnt really happen much. However, Monday morning I got a sharp poke from Al at 9am saying 'Hannah wake up - checkouts in an hour but we have to leave NOW as they are evacuating us as there is gonna be a tsunami in 35 mins'. To this I responded ith lying in bd for a further 10 mins then concluding that I would have time for a shower before I could worry. I was just about to get in the shower when all the staff started shouting everyone to get a move on and I realised that I was infact a complete idiot for thinking I could have a shower and went into panic mode. However, after evacuating it turned out the tsunami decided not to arrive so all good. So Al and I got a bus at 1pm that day down from Cairns to Airlie Beach - arriving at midnight. Had Tuesday in Airlie (where I tried to upload pics but it wouldnt happen!)Then we got picked up at 6;30 to get our boat at 7:30. We were mt with Champagne and left harbour on our boat (Anaconda III). Unfortunately Hannahs stomach wasnt too keen on the water but wasnt sick though so all good. That night was pretty uneventful - met a couple more Brits from Leeds called Gary and Shaun, a girl from Denmark called Sarah (who is coming down to Fraser Island same time as us so will probably join us), a Swedish guy Max (who bought his guitar along - sweet!) and a couple of American/Hong Kongians called Sharon and Jeannie. We basically hung out with thes eguys most of the time. So the next day wake up at 7:30am (technically 7 but i slept through!) and had brekkie then went to Whitehaven beach (number 3 beach in the world) which was STUNNING! not as awesome as phi phi lei but still beautiful. Then we went on to a snorkel site somewhere on another island which was sweet. Unforauntely I wasnt allowed to dive as I have asthma on my medical history and if you want to dive - asthma is a big no no. i was gutted but was fine. I just went snorkelling with Max and it was AWESOME! saw some MASSIVE fish - beautiful colours and about a metre long at least! Al wasnt around at this point as he decided to do a scuba dive - i was SO jealous. So that night we all hung out on the boat with some wine. Max got the guitar out so we spent most of the night offending people with our singing. Anyway, yesterday was pretty much the same except in the evening we played a lot of games (which I won - Im sorry but if there is a game that involves being flexible - im gonna win - HAHAHAHA!) then played more random games with the crew. They introduced us to some new drinking games too which im sure some people at home will love! So today we went for another snorkel but couldnt see much so went back to the boat for a sunbathe. Then came back to Airlie. If I could sail - I would get myself over here and working on the boats because it looks SO much fun! Maybe I will have to look into it. So tonight, we are heading to another boat for a meal and drinks then tomorrow heading down to Rainbow Beach and to Fraser Island. I cant even explain how gutted i am to be leaving this place :( Al will have to drag me kicking and screaming!
