Right, Im going to make this as short as I can (it may be hard!). We left Airlie Beach last Saturday (it required something close to Al having to drag me to the bus station and me having a tantrum). Was NOT happy about leaving Airlie Beach but I know thats a place I have to go back to so its not as though Im leaving it forever. So we got an overnight bus down to Rainbow beach and i spent half the night calling my parents every hours and not once did they answer the phone. Grr. Anyways, we got to Rainbow Beach at 10am on Sunday, checked in, then went out in the rain (BOO!) and got some breakfast (which was pretty good I have to say!) Unfortunately, the rain meant I spent more time in the shops (and there arent many in Rainbow Beach) and nearly missed our briefing for our Fraser Island trip. So that evening, all of us at Dingos got split into our groups for our 4X4 trip round Fraser Island. There was ten of is and everyone seemed pretty sound so it was all good! Also, we managed to get Sarah in our group too (the girl we met in the Whitsundays) and Im SO glad she was in our group!). Monday morning we woke up far to early for my liking (having said that - the Whitsundays did prepare me for the 6am wakeups!) and got our stuff together and got to Fraser Island. Went to Lake MacKenzie first which was really nice - nothing compared to Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays or Phi Phi Lei in Thailand though. Plus it decided to POUR it down half way through our sunbathing. So we spent the next two hours soaking wet in the 4X4 trying to find a campsite and remember to breathe through Als attrocious driving (only joking he wasnt that bad!) Was definately impressed with the food. After setting up camp we got had a steak dinner. Awesome. Played a few games that evening then had a nice gander down the beach. All in all - a pretty good day. The next day we woke up at stupid-o-clock again and got some breakfast then made our way up to Indian Head via the Maheno Wreck. The Maheno is a shipwreck on the beach on Fraser. Not sure how old it is but its a pretty rusty ship! After this, we got to Indian Head for some amazing views down the island, then heading on a nice 45 min walk to the Champagne Pools. Unfortunately there was no free Champagne you could swim with and drink so we left. Only joking - we stayed there for a bit then left! I do have to point out here - Fraser Island is a pretty massive island. To get from one end to the other it takes about 3 hrs. and you cant even drive to the utmost point. Anyway, after this, we made our way down south along the beach again, went byn Eli Creek then set up camp again. Another awesome night evolved - another dingos group was camped next to us so we joined them for some chatting, games, national anthems....the general really. I would just like to say also that Al was on top form last night - he was getting everyone involved in everything. I think he actually scared a few americans but it was so funny! Anyway, after packing up camp today (it took a while - Adam drunk a lot last night and refused to wake up for a while!) Anyway, we took a hike up to Lake Wabby after breakfast which was awesome. Much better than Lake Mackenzie. Its a pretty deep lake on the edge of a massive, huge sanddune. So the boys were quite content in playing 'run down the sanddune and dive in the lake' over and over again. Anyway, we got the ferry back and thats where it all ends. Im now on Rainbow Beach again. Heading to Noosa tomorrow morning which is exciting so expect another update soon enough! Ive had a pretty good time the past few days - our group on Fraser Island got on really well - which was particularly good as all the other teams seemed to be fighting! We did have a few issues in the camp but it was generally ok. Apparantly there is a pirate theme in the hostel tonight - so Im gonna get Al a beer and see if I can con him into dressing up - YEY!
