hey all! so ive left asia now and am currently in oz in cairns! not sure what my last blog said but basically heres a rundown - i arrived in singapore tuesday - went to see the battle box and check out the shops down orchard road before getting some dodgy noodles from there that DEFINATELY didnt taste too good! so had a pretty quiet night afterwards - went back to the hostel, got some sleep and slep right through until midday on Wednesday. Woke up just as a New Zealander was arriving.got chatting with him and he decided to come joing me for a trip to the Changi Prison Museum which was a right mission to get to I can tell you now! Was DEFINATELY worth it though - it was beyond interesting there - so many things that I never realised happened out there - really made me think about the term 'respect your elders'. Because seriously - after being in this place it really is crystal clear why the respect is deserved.
So anyway, left there and went to chinatown for some noodles - much better this time! Then headed back to the hostel for a nap before dinner. At this point, Kiwi boy was starting to frustrate me. So left him to do his own thing.
The next day I went to Sentosa and it became clear how much Singapore resembled Britain - I know it has links in history to Britain but the rain on Thursday was IMMENSE. went to the underwater world and saw loads of sharks, stingrays and other fish then went out in the RAIN again to go to this 4D cinema which actually scared me SO much! was really good. went to stand up after though and realised i had sat myself next to Dan - a guy I met at a party on the Perhentians! Was CRAZY! so ended up going to check out clarke quay with him before heading back to the hostel and getting some food. At dinner I met ANOTHER canadian and we got chatting and decided to check out the Long Bar at Raffles for some singapore slings. $23 for a singapore sling! was CRAZY! thats like 8 pounds or something! was worth it though - definately! A band started playing to and they only way I can describe them is random - they start with 60s covers then move on to a bit of daniel powter, then barry white, then a bit of reggae then rock. i mean WHAT!?!?! so we left , got some sleep and i woke up yesterday went for icecream - shopping for a AWESEOM straw hat which i look SO cool in here in oz. then i went to the cinema. DONT go and see the film 'the hitcher'. its terrible. sean bean you would think would at least make it bearable but its a really bad film. So i just lazed around yesterday until i went to the airport. Als flight was meant to get in at 6 so i thought i would get there about 5 so i could find out where he would be and i could meet him there at 6. unfortauntely he wasnt allowed out of the check in area and i wasnt able to check my bags in until 7:20. finally met up with al then though so all good. didnt get any sleep last night on the flight so we are currently forcing ourselves to stay awake today! Al is particularly shattered as he did fly all the way from the UK! but all is good though we are all safe in cairns and planning our time in oz!
h xoxo
p.s. a word of advice - if u fly into oz - do ALL laundry before you arrive - their method of screening for illegal items isnt using a computer like all sane countries - it is actually hand searching through your bags....including your dirty laundry. most embarrasing moment of my life. full stop.
