hey all! So today we are in Queenstown. Have had a pretty awesome week. Last Saturday night we went out in Christchurch to this Irish Bar where Daves band were playing. Was awesome! In England people would sit down and chat while a band is playing and rustle crisp packets. Not in New Zealand. They were going crazy! was awesome! So Sunday we blatantly slept in - forgot to change the clocks on our alarm clocks so the time was still Australian time so our alarms went off at 12pm instead of 10am. Oh well. Dave and Rebecca took us up the mountain looking over Christchurch for some awesome views, then went down to the little suburb of Sumner and got some munchies before heading back via the most crazy video shop ever to rent out some kiwi films. one was 'the waimate conspiracy' about a land argument in waimate. low budget awesomeness follwed. then we watched 'the rivcer queen' - mum you would love this film. was pretty good. so monday we had a nice conversatyion with our camper van people which involved having to pay them more money (which peter pans travel had conveniently forgot to tell us about in melbourne) but anyways, we got our van and headed to the supermarket for food before heading down to dunedin. at this point i would like to add that our van is a wicked camper and all campers have designs on them - ours has futurama ALL over the side - its pretty sweet. so after a long drive we arrived (i would jkust like to add that the car is automatic and SO easy to drive - so no worries about me crashing it - yet - touch wood) in dunedin. Met up with Thalia and her housemates cooked some food before we got some sleep as Al and I were pretty shattered. Tuesday we had a walk around Dunedin while Thalia was at her lecture - its a pretty nice town/city - very studenty! Thalia then met up with us and we went out to look at the beaches os St Clair and St Kilda - unfortunately its not sunbathing weather out here and im nowhere near crazy enough to get in that water! We headed back to Thalias after that, chilled out and had some food before getting some sleep.
Wednesday We got up early and headed out on the 4hr drive to Te Anau. Unfortunately Hannah seems to have aquired a stupid head cold and spends most of her days sneezing constantly (especially this day) so driving was probably not a good option and Al was left doing all the driving. We set up camp, made us some pasta then got some sleep. As drinking is not an option with the camper van we are generally getting very early nights sleep at the moment. Thursday Al drove us up to Milford Sound and we got a boat cruise around the Fjiord. Was pretty dramatic scenery. We had a fair bit of rain (as is customary in Milford Sound) and so there was many a waterfall. As well as getting soaked outside we got to see some sea lions etc. I got to do the nice drive back which was pretty fun. Except for the annoying people on my tail who could nto grasp the fact that a campre van cant get up the steep slopes as fast as their car. Was a ncie drive back though as we were able to stop off wherever we wanted and see different things. We stopped at these Mirror Lakes that were literally like mirrors. The waster was so calm that you could see every detail of the surrounding mountains.
Friday we got up early (again!) and headed to Queenstown. I made up for not driving to Te Anau the other day so drove the entire stretch to Queenstown which involved a scary mountainside drive. sweet. We went up this hill by Gondola for some awesome views of Queenstown and the mountains. Then decided to do this Luge thing at the top. The first time you do it you have to go the scenic boring way so we blatantly had to have 2 gos so we gould do the advanced awesome track! Was pretty good fun. There was a bungy there too but I have no intention of dying fron jumping off a ledge so decided it wasnt for me. Al wanted to but chickened out. haha! saw some other people bunjying though! aaaaaaaaaa! after that we played some indoor mini golf - quite possibly the best mini golf ever - definately worth the $17! they had chairlifts and things lifting and dropping the golof ball everywhere. got an early sleep at some derelict campsite last night and woke up late this morning as we slept through our alarms. rushed into Queenstown and Al did this shotover jet thing while i was busy being a chicken and having a relaxingly cold day by the lake. Steve is arriving in an hour os so here so will hopefully catch up with him soon!
will post again when im able - basically im still alive and still having an awesome time!
