So yesterday I jumped out of a perfectly good aeroplane. Thats pretty much gonna be the extent of this blog. Its gonna be based around how AWESOME yesterday was. Actually, I guess I should bore you with the details of the pervious days.
So Saturday after my last blog we got the ferry over to Wellington. During the ferry ride we watched potentially the worst kids film ever made - do not watch happy feet - its terrible. So we thought we would stay just outside of Wellington ad come in in the morning and have a look around. But once we got out of Wellington we decided we could not be bothered to go back there. So we camped up somewhere with a name I cant pronounce and took a trip the next day up to Palmerston North. So we arrived into Palmerston just after midday on Sunday and met up with Kelly (a fried of mine who I worked in the US with two years ago). She currently lives in Palmerston so we went to hers and had a chat and caught up and then watched a fair amount of films in the evening!Â
We had a pretty early start on Monday as we anted to go to Lake Taupo via the Wanganui River as its meant to be pretty sweet. So we did this but once we got to Wanganui we realised we could not be bothered to stop in the rain and we could see the awesome scenery from the car so decided to get a move on up to Taupo. Stopped at a few randomly awesome waterfalls on the way up though. Arrived in Taupo around lunchtime and rung up some Skydive companies who informed us they werent diving today as it was pretty bad weather. boo. so we decided to take a trip up to the Huka falls just outside of Taupo. These falls are pretty awesome - not massive like the Niagara falls btu more like a series of rapids with the most amazing Turquoise waters. Because the water pressure is so high here, New Zealand uses the energy from this river for commercial purposes. After the Huka falls we went to the 'Craters of the Moon' which is basically a stretch of land covered by Geysers and stinking of rotten eggs thanks to the sulpur. We did the walk around here (saw some boiling mud pools which were awesome and BLATANTLY made me wanna go mudmucking!) then headed back into Taupo to find somewhere to stay. Monday evening we decided to go to the cinema as apparantl '28 weeks later' was going to be awesome - lie. its not particularly good and you spend the entirety of the film wanting to kick the kids for deciding to go out of the 'safe' area in the first place. However, it did make me start a nice diet as a particularly jumpy bit made me drop all my chocolates all over the floor.Â
So yesterday morning we woke up and the sky was pertty blue - perfect day for a skydive! So i went and had a shower and came out and the sky was cloudy again - boo. was not happy. monday we had booked to Skydive at 12pm on the Tuesday and we were told to ring up 15 minutes before 12 to check the skydive was actually still going ahead. so we spent the entire morning not really thinking about it because we werent sure if we could do it or not. then i decided to call up at 11:30 and was told it was still no. woohoo! after cranking out the appropriate 'dangerzone' on the way to the skydive centre we arrived pretty pumped up. However, when we went to sign in, Al was told he couldnt do it which sucked. However, we went and got ready to jump - there were me and a couple of other girls doing the skydive at the same time so we got all our kit on and met our instructors. mine was very quick at explaining everything so i was like ' EH?!?!?!?!' all was good though- our plane was PINK! so we got up in the TINY plane - as i was the last to jump me and my instructor dude were at the back and the others were infront of me. the first girl was jumping out at 12000ft and was looking particularly terrified! all was fine though - you dint really have a choice - one your in the plane you are going out of it! that just left me and the other girl. i was highly suprised at how not nervous i was at all -i was pretty excited! however, once i saw the girl infrotn of me jump out at 15,000ft i was like - WOAH!!!!! they literally just fell out of the plane!!!!!! so we had to sit on the side and by this time i was still stupidly excited however - more aware of the fact that i was gonna fall out of an aeroplane 15000ft above the earth. all was good though - except he took a century to get us out of the plane! (i didnt realise at the time but he was filming and i was paying NO attention - hence looking like a complete spaz in my dvd!) so then we just kinda fell. thats pretty much it. unless you do a skydive you cant really explain it. you cant really see a great deal as its just so insane! at 15000ft you get over a minute of freefalling before the parachute goes up which is crazy as it goes so quickly. and its so loud that you cant hear anything while you are freefalling. then the parachute goes and all is nice (until he informs you that he is gonna loosen the straps a bit - and your heart starts to panic as you are scared you are gonna drop. but all is good. he does loads of swirly patterns then you land - unable to walk - and trying to find ways to scrounge another wad of cash to do another one! so yesterday afternoon i pretty much couldnt talk because the adrenalin was still going crazy. al decided to go see spiderman and then we headed up towards rotorua last night. unfortunately i got zero sleep thanks to the adrenalin that wouldnt leave me alone! and now i think im steadily becoming an adrenalin junkie as i need to get that adrenalin back so am actually contemplating chucking myself off a bridge with a bungy rope attached to my legs! aaaaaaa!
so its raining in rotorua - boo. and it smells of sulphur - boo. and im now officially broke thanks to the skydive (i decided to get the dvd and the photos - even thought eh photos are decidedly not good. and the dvd i look like i have a plate for a face as they used a 'fishbulb lens' on the video camera (technical details provided by alastair paterson) which automatically makes the person closest to the lens look like the have a massive face - and massive nose too!). however, we are hopefully gonna get to go zorbing today! chuck myself down a hill in a massive rubber ball with water in it? OH YEAH! sounds like fun! next blog will probably be from fiji i guess as we fly out on sunday! woohoo!
p.s. i had a pink parachute too! AWESOME!
