Again, apologies for leaving this so late- the past two weekks have flown by. will give a quick (and probably boring update) as im in a bit of a rush. basically, heres the lowdown. as I said before, I went to see home and away beach last monday and had planned to go tuesday as they were filming then. so i got myself up at stupid o clock, got on the bus, traelled for an hour and a half to find out that as it was raining stupidly hard they had cancelled filming. so i got myself the best hot chocolate ever and headed back to sydney. however, all was not lost, text tim from american football (who is now living out in sydney) and met up with him for some lunch. was really good to catch up and he has a right aussie twang in his voice now! afternoon was pretty sleepy. in the evening i met up with jemma and ali from kingsley for some drinks in sydney. was a pretty good night. met some randoms at a bar and ended up partying with them for a while. however, due to lack of taxis at 3am in sydney on a tuesday, i ended up having to walk the entire length of george street to get home - boo.
wednesday was pretty much a sleeping day. did next to nothing. we were meant to be doing the blue mountains but it got called off due to rain. i did take a wander up to north sydney though to meet jake (a guy who is working at westwind in oregon with me this summer) was pretty cool to meet him before summer camp -especially as he has never been to westwind before!
thursday we did the blue mountanis. awesome. thats pretty much all i can say. they were amazing. our tour took us around to look at the sights and some wild kangaroos. then we got to do a trek through them (which started with walking down 843 steps down the side of one of the three sisters mountain things - yes i counted!) it was really good fun though. we got the 'scenic railway' back to the top of the mountain. usually when you hear the word scenic you think old school style train....not in australia. it was pretty much a ride up alton towers. except no restraints holding you into the cart thing. definately awesome though! the day finished with a trip to the telstra dome where the olympics were held which was pretty cool. cant remember thursday night - dont think we did anything! friday night was spent sleeping until about 2pm though then doing nothing and getting an early night. saturday was more adventurous. again we slept in until about 2pm. but we went to watch the aussie rules game that night at the SCG. i have to say that i am hooked. sydney vs melbourne. i had a sydney hat on but blatantly melbourne were much fitter. full stop. i can definately recommend EVERY woman to watch an aussie rules game. even if its just to watch them in their little shorts. so the game lasted a while and i started to start drifting off when i heard someone say something about home and away. so i turned around and lo and behold - drew and belle from home and away were in the balcony behind us. sweet. i was highly impressed. so we did a few mexican waves in celebration. after that game we went back to the hostel to change to go out.i was searching for some hair grips in my bag, opened the side pocket of my cosmetic bag and found 3000 baht, 100 malaysian ringgits and a fair few singaporean dollars. alongside my debit card. now i lost the money 2 hours after arriving in thailand and my debit card a week later. the reason was that i put them in a safe hiding place....unfortunately that wasnt my cosmetics bag. note to self - a cosmetic bag side pocket is not a safe place that you will remember to find things in. i meant who has a side pocket of a cosmetics bag as their safe place really?!?! but all was good - i got the money changed and was able to go shopping a bit on sunday. anyway, to finish saturday, we went to the pub scruffy murphys down the road for some drinks with some people from our dorm - was good fun . then they bought this bon jovi tribute band on who were absolutely amazing. full stop.
so sunday, i went shopping - actually i bought a belt and a necklace - hardly hardcore shopping but hey im on a budget and i hate that activity anyway! that evening was awesome. we went to the neighbours night in sydney and met up with jemma and ali and a couple of their friends there. after waiting about an hour - janelle came out with libby kennedy and of course dr karl. sweet so they answered some questions, we did a quiz (which we failed at miserably) there were a few competitions, we met the stars then i decide to enter the dance contest. actually i was nominated and i just felt the need. after a short rendition of cameron diaz' charlies angels dance with the running man i found myself winning a nice 2 for 1 trip to the whitsundays. sweet. except im going to melbourne. oh well. i stll won - yey me!
monday was a mission and a half - got up early and headed down to canberra for the day which is actually an AWESOME capital. it really makes you realise how rubbish england is on certain forms. for example - the place is spotless, secondly, we went to the war memorial museum which was AMAZING, and to get there we walked around anzac parade which is literally a street designed to have war memorials for all the wars along it. and these were not just statues that kids had trashed with skateboards - these were full on impressive expensive statues that the city residents and the tourists had respected. even the wreaths from anzac day were still in place and untouched. They really do make an effort to remember in Australia and respect others a lot more than anywhere else i have found. so after a walk to the parliament buildings (covered in grass - ie replica of the teletubby house) which was preceeded byt a walk via the statue the UK gave australia as a gift - massive statue. expensive. blatantly could have used that money on the nhs.
we got an overnight bus to melbourne arriving in the morning and found some dodgy hostel to sleep in. after sleeping til midday we got up and went to the melbourne gaol which was so interesting. they had all these death masks - apparantly back in the 1800's they would take a mould of the prisoners face and examine it to see if the structure of the skull related to a persons llikelihood of being a criminal. this was the place ned kelly was hanged so there was all the info about him there. we then went up the observation tower for a look over melbourne - pretty massive place. before getting dinner and headiing to bed. or so we though. our roommate masked as a night time freight train in his spare time so every 2 seconds during the night we were wondering whether the noise was him snoring or the sound of the 07:11 train from adelaide arriving at the platform. needless to say - no sleep. so we moved ourselves to st kilda to a nice hostel. went for a gander around on the beach and pier and booked our neighbours tour.
thursday morning was neighbours time - wentot erinsborough high, ramsey street and got to go into the back lot of the studios and see the mechanics, greasy monkeys and loads of props. and we got to meet the guy who plays fraser in the show....and as ive been away for 2 months - i dont know who he is. he knew who i was though - thanks to my jumper saying my name - i was shocked at first! after neighbours we went back to peter pans and booked our great ocean road trip for the friday, as well as our camper van through new zealand and our trip round the yasawa islands in fiji. unfortunately barclays suck and would not accept my debit card - cue a lot of drama and calling parents at 5am their time to sort it. all sortde though so no longer an issue. that night we met up with dan, chris and martin from fraser island as martin was travelling down here and chris and dan are in melbourne at school here atm. was cool to see them. got some food and headed to the bar for a quick one.
FRIDAY we went on the great ocean road (stupidly early wake up). went to bells beach (the home of rip curl and lots of rich makers of money from it) , then went on down the coast to kenneth rier to meet some wild koalas and birds (i ran while al decided to do his best impression of the bird lady from mary poppins (feed the birds - tuppence a bag). they loved him! ate some food then headed down to the 12 apostles via apollo bay. at the 12 apostles we got the chance to do a helicopter ride over them - awesome. i got to sit up front with the pilot....he didnt let me press buttons....spoil sport :( anyway, this was AWESOME - definately the highlight of the day. we then went to loch ard gorge where there was a massive shipwreck a hundered or so years ago and only 2 people survived (this was quite a lot to be fair - when you see the rocks and the waves - you know why!) walked around here for a bit then went to gibsons steps where we could walk down on to the beach and take some photos of the apostles from there. this was all before heading back, getting dinner and getting back to melbourne at 9:30 pm. cue drama. got to st kilda. picked up bags. missioned it back to melbourne to stay at skanky hostel as its close to station for the bus to the airport. got to hostel. got room. headed there - there was blatantly only one bed spare. trudge back down the stairs/ got given another room. back up stairs. this room definately had two beds but the two people in the room had thrown all their stuff over the beds. went back downstairs. lady at reception had a rant at al for wasting time etc etc (as i said - skanky hostel) and finally put us in another room. by this point im exhausted and know my bag weighs well over 20kgs so need to loose a fair bit before our flight. al went to meet up with dan and chris again while i repacked everything then fell asleep. was woken by some scary dorm boy at 3am saying something incomprehensible so i went back to sleep. to wake up at 4am, pick up bags, got to bus station, get bus to airport and sit around. got through departures and left al by the magazine shop. took about 7 steps and nearly stopped breathing as susan kennedy from neighbours walked past me. i ran back ahead of them and pointed her out to al who was equally as impressed. as she was blatantly in a hurry in the other direction we assumed she had gone to get the soon departing place to sydney. half an hour later we realised we were wrong when she sat down two seats infront of me on the flight to christchurch. so the entire flight i sat going -AAAAAA! until i finally went over and had a chat. she singed stuff. i was majorly happy. awesome.
so got to christchurch today and dads friend dave who is now living out here picked us up. we are staying here with him and rebecca for a couple of days. havent done much today - went in town for a bit but then came back. meant to be at daves gig now but im blatantly on here for too long and al is shooting me evil glances. better go!
