Alright so continuing on from where I was before:
10th June: Had another color war fakeout where two guys danced onstage, walked off then walked back on holding a huge banner saying' color war' panic erupted once again but it was a fakeout again lol. Evening activity was the senior play of 'Legally Blonde' which all my girls were in and one even had a main part! It was so cute!
Then they showed us this clip all about the troops in Iraq, and a leiutenant personally said thanks to us (cos on visiting day the parents brought insane amounts of junk food which we gave the kids one day to demolish and anything left was confiscated and sent to Iraq) and then he said something about his war... and then goes 'but yours is a war of red and grey, this is color war!!!' and we all knew it was for real this time so we all bolted (screaming all the way I might add) to the tennis courts where there were our 'favors' which were huge foam fingers, either red or grey with each person's name on it. Mine was red, so I was on the red team. So that was exciting!
11th: Today was really gloomy so it wasn't a good start to color war but despite that we had a lot of fun, there was counselor volleyball which we lost (damn grey!). Then we won softball. And the rest of the day the counselors had to be reffing and stuff...
12th: First up was the marathon today, it went for aaages! every single kid on each team and a few counselors had to do short-ish sprints and it was a gigantic relay. Red was winning but about half a lap(!!!) at one stage (each lap took about 10 minutes or something) but due to lots of batton dropping it was suddently neck and neck! Grey pulled ahead and ended up winning by 3 seconds! And considering it was about 1hr 45m race that was insanely close!
After dinner we had college bowl, a trivia competition. I'm pretty much a genius as you all know :P haha. Our team got 100%. It was stupid. But I love trivia so much! I think I will organise a trivia night for some reason or another when I get home... maybe a welcome back hannah trivia night!! hhehe
13th: better weather than previous which helped with everyone's moods, considering how wrecked we all were! Many late nights during color war! Our last laundry day! after day 2 Red team was losing by about 140 points... and considering grey was on 600 we were down by a significant percentage! After day 3, we were WINNING! *by12* It was sooo amazing! :D what a comeback!
14th: we lost vrtually everything today so was down by 70 :( Evening activity was fireman's haul which is where you fill a bucket in the lake, and pass it along your whole team making sure it touches everyone in the line (including the tiny inters which you had to help with it) and put the water in a bucket at the end. You have to fill the bucket and then a ping pong ball falls out and you win. It was soooo close it was ridiculous, and grey had water spilling out the top first but the ball didn't come out, then ours did! Yay Red!!!
Counselor dodgeball was tonight, it was sooo funny! Everyone got dressed up like loony people... Red's theme was superheroes (my pink superman cape came in handy once again! best $5 ever spent!) and Grey's was block colours! sooo amusing, when I finally upload photos you will understand :P
15th: Color war day 5.. last day.Big event was the apache relay. There were about 130 legs with everything from eating a quarter of a watermelon, to a kayak race, to counting pieces of wood on the dock at the lake, to running to swimming... it was insane! So much fun! Took over 2 1/2 hours. At one point about half an hour into it we were behind by about 7 minutes! Because apparantly there was a maths question our kid just couldn't figure out. But somehow, in the last 5 - 10 legs we took the lead, after being behind by heaps the whooole way, which we carried through to the end and won by about 10 seconds!!!
Then we had tug-of-war which red counselors won but the rest of the divisions lost so overall we got dominated.
Last of all we had the SING contest. Each team does a skit, a cheer, a march and an alma mater (sad song dedicated to Chipinaw). all the songs were written by the waitresses and Super Seniors (so campers 14yrs-16) and they were amazing!
After this we had the closing ceremony, although it was a very tight competition right up until the end, the Grey team won the Alma Mater which meant the won Color war. Oh well.
Then I called home and talked to Mum about uni finally.
16th: Lazy day. Today was a chance for the specialists who normally have saturdays off (all of us) to experience was a lazy saturday was. it is so fun. We got up at 10, had bagels with smoked salmon, and a jewish dessert called baklava or something. Then we had super clean up of the bunks until 12.45. Then brief services by the lake ( our last services!) then beach day (day at the pool). Cookie call followed the pool then we had relax time. Barbeque for dinner (argh I can't escape them even if I run to the other side of the world!!!) Then we had the marine dance. Got some good piccies!
17th: 3 normal lessons, then 3 tedious hours of cleaning. I did so much, my boss loves me more :) hehe
All Star play was on tonight (campers and counselors) it was soo hilarious! Then Michael presented 3yr, 5yr, 7yr and 10yr shirts, jerseys and stuff for the campers that had been here for that many years. Most of my girls got their 5 yr shirts.
18th: Last full day at camp with kids :( Mostly cleaning and packing. Final dinner was Banquet. It was epic. 4 hours! It had meals, awards, speeches, songs... just ... wow. My co-counselor Carrie left at lunch because she lives in Florida and there were hurricane warnings so she had to go early. It was sooo sad! But I get to go and visit her soon :) Yay! So excited!!!
Then we went outside and watched the burning of the "Chipinaw 08" thing, it was pretty.
19 August: Goodbye bunk 13B. My girls left today :( As well as a lot of counselors. Keeping in mind I never cry cos I'm like... emotionally ill-equipped or something... I absolutely bawled. As soon as I was saying goodbye to my first girls it just all came out and kept coming for hours. It was actually one of the most depressing days ever.
All the counsellors then headed into Monticello for one last night out at Friends, which was packed. Then we stayed in the Travel Inn, Econolodge or Super 8. Our room was really nice and spacious. Very sad night :(
20 August: Today is when all the counsellors not doing postcamp (about 97% of people) left to go to New York. It was again, a really sad day. Before anyone else got up I went wandering to see if there was an electronics store open that I could buy an ipod. But alas, it was 7.30 so there was virtually nothing open. Except a cafe with the net... yay :)
AFter everyone left, Dan, Ellis Loren and I walked to Walmart where I bought an IPOD TOUCH to ease my sorrows... retail therapy is actually amazing :) I can justify spending the money by adding up all the times I piked on going out drinking and just stayed at camp :) heheh
OKay my hands are starting to hurt... i think it's to do with repetitive movements... RMI or something?? but I'm only a few days behind now... I'll get there eventually :D
Love han xoxoxo
