Hi Fans,
Sorry for the late blog entry..
So from Koh Samui we set off for the boat to Koh Tao in the pouring rain and waited for our ferry. Luckily, the rain stopped by the time the ferry came as we had to fight our way to the front to get on first. I was tired, wet and took no prisoners as I got on the boat. On the boat we had to throw our bags to the front and go find a seat. As I did this, to my horror I noticed every other passengers bag go on top of my bag swallowing it into a huge bag void. The boat journey itself wasn't too stressful and flew by quite fast. As the boat docked into the pier at Koh Tao we were given confusing messages as to how to collect our bags. I decided not to take any risks and search for my bag in the void.
After locating my bag and making my way to the rest of the group, we were all told to put our bags on the back of one pick up truck and jump on another. Well, I have never been so scared in my entire life, we had to ride over the most bumpy roads just sitting on the side of a pick up truck. As were pulled in to our resort, I was greeted to a building site full of noise, dust and cranes - oh great!!
However, to my delight, we drove through the building site to the other part of the resort which was beautiful. The resort was a stones throw from the beach and had a beautiful infinity pool in the middle of the resort. Also, Katie and Rachel had a huge pet Gheko in their room about as big as my forearm which we named Steve.
That afternoon, myself, Waqar, Rachel and Katie took a stroll to the cafe where I we couldn't contain our excitement at Jacket Potatoes being on the menu. Following our homely meal, we had a stroll up and down the beach and checked out potential bars for the next couple of evenings.
That evening we went out for Sarah's birthday and went to a local Mexican restaurant - which was lovely!
The next day, I decided to rest by the pool and soak up some rays. Then unfortunately I was ill and had to go to bed (not hungover -honestly) but I did discover how amazing the Discovery Channel is.
That evening, all of us met for a final tea at the resort's restaurant where I had the nicest BBQ of my life. Even better than Dad's charcoal sausages :P. I had a chicken kebab (like the ones on a stick) and a Baracuda kebab - which is now officially my favourite fish. We had another jacket potato (divine!) and roasted vegetables. It was beautiful!
That night we went to a local bar called Fish Bowl which was right on the beach. I sat there looking at the waves lapping listening to an acoustic band sing all my favourite songs whilst drinking a beer - I will remember that evening for the rest of my life, it was bliss.
The next day we had an hour or so by the pool in which Rachel and I played a rather violent game of catch before heading back to Bangkok :(. We got back on the death trap pick up truck and were dropped off at a Harbour on the North of the Island. Our ferry was delayed by a couple of hours then we had to go through the pain of the huge bag void once again. Then once we got off the ferry we had to walk down the pier of death - the most dangerous looking pier I have ever walked down with huge gaps and holes between the boards. Then we had to get on a coach to take us to the train station to board the sleeper train to Bangkok. I barely slept on the sleeper train as I was freezing so arrived back in Bangkok feeling pretty sorry for myself.
However, that day after dumping our rucksacks in the hotel, a group of us went to the amazing Grand Palace. Unfortunately, I forgot to cover my shoulders and knees and had to hire authentic Thai clothes - pictures to follow.. don't laugh :). After that we had a walk down Koh San Road where I have never been pestered so much in my life. It was definately an experience that made me glad I wasn't staying there!!
That evening I stayed in a hotel near the airport to get up for my early flight to Singapore the next day.
Overall, Thailand was the most amazing place I have ever visited. It was so culturally different to anything I have ever seen and I have experienced things I will remember forever. I would definately recommend visiting Thailand to anyone especially with a Thai tour.
to be continued...
