Following my horrific ordeal with Ping Pong, I decided to spend the next day lying by the pool doing absolutely nothing. The next day I did just that whilst most people in my group went to markets floating or on land. To be honest i'm all 'marketed' out, I have a sarong, hippy bracelets and a tacky present.. what more do I need/or can I carry. The evening after my strenuous pool day we set off on another sleeper train to go to Khao Sok National Park. This train was more basic than the previous ones however we had the entertainment of the worst train waiter ladyboy ever. We had to wait until ten pm for our tea to arrive and even then he had a nightmare trying to work out who ordered what.. he dealt with this by giggling like a japanese school girl.. well that was that for the whole night I couldn't stop laughing..
After the sleeper train we arrived in a foul smelling town where we had to wait for a public bus.. just before it arrived we were told to push for our lives to get a seat. The bus was two hours so I took no prisoners and made sure I had a seat. I fell asleep on a rather unimpressed thai girl sat next to me - oops.
After a truck journey we finally arrived in Khao Sok National Park - the oldest rainforest in the world. It was incredibly wet which made it nice and cool. We stayed in bungalows and mine was on top of a little hill (pictures to follow), with views of the rainforest.
We dumped our bags and headed straight to lunch where I had chips, I was all noodled out. Then we went tubing in the rain. The river was a greyish murky colour and had quite a fast current, faster than the bamboo rafting.
Off we went, with young cheeky thai guides to push us. One thought he was hilarious when he tickled my feet and I screamed thinking it was a fish. We were all going at some speed when it started chucking it down!! Then it was bedlam, I couldn't breathe for laughing as it was such a horrendous situation! It got incredibly cold but we still had to keep going along the river. Then a few of us all collected under a tree as the guide was pointing up. On one of the branches hanging near the river was a black and yellow thin SNAKE!! That was it then, every branch I came near resulted in me screaming snake snake snake. If i wasn't laughing I was screaming with fear. Eventually, I arrived at the end of the river safely.
Next we went to a beautiful waterfall. After that we went to a Monkey Temple in the pouring rain. This was amazing.. we fed wild monkeys nuts and bananas. There little hands softly picked the nuts out of my hand and looked at me as if to say 'Thank you'.. it was out of this world. We stayed for a short while in amazment at these Monkeys and there own little temple in the trees.
That evening we all ate, I actually ate Thai food.. I didn't think I could get away with chips again. Then we stayed playing card games before making the treacherous 2 min journey back to our hut my torch light. I was told once to stomp all the way back to scare snakes off - I started doing it and freaked everyone out ha ha ha! I may have looked stupid but there were no snakes :)
The next morning we woke early to set off to the Islands, to be continued...
