Sorry again for the late update...
Following Airlie beach and the beautiful Whitsunday's, Kim and I got up early again (6.30am) to head to 'Town of 1770/Agnes Water'. This journey we were greeted by a very noisy glorified mini bus and an obnoxious bus driver aptly named 'Princess'.
A very boring journey led us to a quiet hippy looking place called 'Town of 1770' named by Captain Cook. Our hostel 'Cool Banana's' was beautiful set in tropical gardens with a large tv area and kitchen. The hyperactive owner greeted us and put us in a room with Emily and Emily (the two Emily's) and Dan. Dan barely entered the room and when he did, it was to sleep with his clothes on with no cover, (what a scrubber).
Mr Hyperactive explained that the cook (a man that looked like one of the seven dwarfs) would be making bangers and mash for tea - woop woop. Following tea, Kim, the two Emily's and I went out to the local pub to meet some more people from the Kiwi Bus. The pub's patrons that night were just the Kiwi Bus. The Town of 1770 isn't the liveliest of towns at night especially mid week.
The next day we went to Scooteroo, one of the best things I have ever done in my life. Once at the Scooteroo HQ, we were kitted out with a helmet, leather jacket and transfer tattoos to make ourselves look 'badass'. Then we picked our bikes... I picked one at the back to limit the amount of people seeing me fall off. As the instructor was showing us how to operate the 50cc motorbikes, all I could think was 'please don't be rubbish at this'. Row by row, people set off (around 30 in total) to have a practice run around a track. Then it was my turn... the motorbikes are actually quite heavy and keeping it upright whilst going slow is quite a challenge. I set off going round the roundabout but I just could not get the hang of the whole stopping with the brakes.. I instead used my feet to slide through the gravel. It took me a few goes to stop and then another go to be persuaded to go faster (as going faster makes you more balanced). Once I was given the thumbs up I was allowed to join the rest of the group (I wasnt the last one to get it thank god.. just second to last ha ha). Then the other instructors joined our pack including a mini bus which stopped traffic from over taking us.
Off we set on the big open road in a huge motorcycle gang!!! Over hills and past fields of kangaroos we zoomed past, stopping every so often to take pictures. At one of the stops, Kim and I decided we would sing songs when we next set off. For some reason I started singing 'Hit the road Jack' at the top of my lungs. The sun was setting, I was riding a motorbike singing along, life really could not get any better.
Just before sunset, we stopped at the ocean to grab some wedges and watch the sunsetting. However, Kim and I dilly dallied and missed the wedges but were fobbed off with a giant cookie! So, there we sat on a wall facing the ocean with the sun setting in front of us with our bikes behind us whilst eating a giant cookie!! ha ha! It was just brilliant, if I didn't have a cool reputation to keep up I may have shed a tear!! ha ha! Then we set off just as the sun was set (but i kept my sunglasses on to be cool) and arrived back at HQ in the pitch black to some roaring techno music.
That evening, Kim, the two emilies and I decided to opt out of the 70's fancy dress party and watch 'The Beach', so I could show off about all the places I'd been to :P!!
To be continued..
