Hello All!
We have just got back from 3 days on Fraser Island! Had an awesome time! But more about that in a minute...
Before that we went sailing around the Whitsundays for 2 nights...again lots of fun! We were sailing on the Freight Train. On the first day we went snorkelling and had to wear bodyhugging stinger suits (we know they make the backpackers wear them to look silly). That night we played a very international version of Ring of Fire on the ships deck underneath a sky full of stars.
The next morning we went scubadiving, the water was a little murkier than at the great barrier reef but we still saw lots of coral and fish. That afternoon we went to Whitehaven Beach. It was stunning. One of the top 6 beaches in the world. The sand is made of 99% silica and if a bolt of lightning strikes it, it will turn to glass. The sand was so fine and so all the girls were wildly exfoliating.
That evening we went to a resort on one of the main islands where we met up with another boat. We were made to walk through a jungle where we were abandoned by our crew as they took a shortcut! The night was going pretty well lots of music and dancing and everyone ended up in the pool. It had to end though, so as the crew abandoned us once again we had to walk through the jungle in the dark! We got back to the boat eventually, where half an hour later the crew realised they had lost one of the passengers! Slightly worried they went back to look for him...he had been in the shower back at the resort!
And so onto Fraser...
Fraser Island was lots of fun. On the first day we went to Lake Wabby where there were massive sand dunes, reminded me of the desert! Then we set up camp! We were impressed with our ability to set up our own tents! That night we cooked a massive BBQ. There were dingles lurking closeby and one even got in to a tent! We went to bed about 9 o'clock...completely shattered!
The next morning we headed to Indian Head where you are supposed to be able to see the tiger sharks below, we saw a shadow but that was it! It was a great view though! Then we went to Champagne Pools where the water crashes over the rocks to give a champagne effect (hance the name)! Next was the Maheno Shipwreck on the coast and then we set up camp for the second night.
That night we made pasta for dinner and sat with some fellow campers. We ate lots, drank lots (developing quite a taste for Goon now) and laughed alot! Ika the German (someone everyone should meet- "You from the U and the K") A very entertaining night!
The next day we went to Lake MacKenzie but had to leave early because of Cyclone Hamish!
