Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
This may be a hard way to keep everyone up to date seeing as I'm having a hard time finding enough time to come use the internet. I have been to busy out exploring to actually want to sit down and write.
I've been wandering around the parks, getting to know the local cafes and taking way too many pictures. I met a lot of other students from my program a couple of days ago and have gone out a few times with them. Yesterday we took our placement test and I think by some fluke they placed me in Intermediate level 2, which is the equivalent of 300 level spanish. I can understand most of it, but seeing as I've taken only through 100 level spanish, I'm missing a lot of the grammer and other necesities. At least I'll learn it though!
Sunday we had an official city tour, going to all the main areas and learning the basic layout of the town, after which I met up with a few of the students, found a nice place for lunch and wandered around Avenida Cabildo, which is the main street of Belgrano.
Yesterday after the test another student (Erin) and I went to go try and find some of the places we had seen the day before and wanted to explore in more depth. A crowded busride and a lot of walking later we landed at the Malba, which is a Latin American art museum, a Japonese Garden, and the zoo, which seems to have been built around some historic sight by the looks of the buildings, but we don't know for sure, because no one really understood what I was trying to ask. We found our way home through crowded subways and more walking.
Today was our first day of class, and I still don't really believe that I'm going to school here. 9:30 - 2:30, Monday - Friday, with only 30 minute break.
However, it's worth it. When our class got out I went with 3 other students to go to the famous graveyard where Evita is buried. I've never seen anything like it. (when my cord for my camera comes I'll put pictures up). "old graveyard" usually means just old headstones, but I didn't know that a place like this even existed. It was incredible. In a city of dogs, apparently this is where the cats all go to hide as well.
Ok, that's all the basics of what I've been doing. I'll describe more people and places in later emails.
Ciao!
