Day 22- Woke up early to a nice clear cold morning. Mike went for an early morning 8km run to the Lincoln memorial , came home raving about it. Had big breakfast and set off on foot to see the sights. It's 8 degrees so one less layer needed. Walked straight down the national mall to the Washington monument before stopping at the World War Two memorial. Then walked along the side of the reflecting pool towards the Lincoln memorial. Spent an hour or so there, was awesome, reading the scripts and speeches and if course seeing the giant marble statue of the man himself. The sight looking toward the Washington monument was magnificent. A cloudless day. It was a poignant reminder of past occasions where many important rallies have taken place. Walked past the Vietnam War memorial with all the names if the deceased U.S soldiers then past the White House. The city is preparing for the inauguration of the president in two weeks. It's a beautiful city with so many iconic land marks, statues and memorials. Went to the museum of American history followed by the Natural history museum. These were both free and amazing. The African American history, presidents wives dresses, early man/evolution of man, dinosaurs were some if our favourites. The buildings were impressive. Finished at 5.30pm, walked to town, intending to eat but caught a taxi home and had dinner in the motel. A very full and busy day, lots if walking but can't wait to get out again tommorow!
