DONGGUAN, Guangdong Province:
This bed is so unbelievably hard, I might as well be sitting on the floor!
I have just brushed my teeth for bed whilst looking out over the balcony at Dongguan.
For my first night on-land in China, I am sleeping in a dorm room of a primary school! This room consists of one entire wall of cupboards, and 3 bunk beds.
I'm sharing this room with another girl - Elizabeth from Durham.... There's air conditioning on, which is lovely, but the two doors, leading to either the corridor or the balcony of showers, sinks and latrines feel like doorways to saunas! For 4ish am, it is HOT!! I dread to think how hot it's going to be in the daytime tomorrow!
The last couple of days have been interesting - spent most of the time in a plane! Stressful in Beijing as I've already explained - the drama with an old-man-boarding-ticket-thief was eventually resolved - he actually turned out to be kind & helpful, although it would've been a lot kinder if he'd have told me more specifically what he was trying to do!
Found my way to my next flight - also Gareth's one - and the three hour flight to Guangzhou passed fairly quickly as I slept through most of it! Once we got to Guangzhou we were met by June who introduced us to Przemyslaw who both worked for TTC and both were lovely. Then Pinky - another member of TTC - arrived, then Sarah from Lincolnshire arrived, then Kate and Alasdair, and then finally Jacob from Denmark arrived, meaning we could all get on the coach for the 90 min drive to our accommodation about 6 hours after me and Gareth had initially arrived in Guangzhou!
Chatted in the bus to Kate and Sarah, then once we got to the school (which is HUGE) we dragged our bags up 6 flights of stairs, and now here I am! Had a quick shower to cool down, although the A/C in here is perfect...
And now I should go to bed - breakfast in 4 hours! Will need to take some photos tomorrow, but so far I am totally enjoying myself and have been forcing myself to talk with all these strangers!
