FINALLY SUN!
Typically the weather here is like four seasons in one day. Yesterday was a beautiful Irish Summer's day.
The night before, Liam's 3 friends (Ferghal, Colm, and Deremid) came over to meet all my CEA friends to drink before we hit the pubs. I loved meeting Liam's friends! Their personalities were so charming and hilarious. They often asked me to repeat after them some Irish phrase…. They found it funny…. But I found it even more hilarious to try to make them sound like an American! They always say, "LIKE, OMG" when trying to sound American…. It's hilarious!
So… the next day… the beautiful sunny one… I said goodbye to my new friends and Liam took me for an adventurous day. First we went on a tour of Galway on a boat called the Corrib Princess. We had a few Pints of Guinness (I had Bulmers) and enjoyed the many sites of Galway while the sun sparkled.
After the boat ride we went into town to enjoy the Galway arts festival. The Galway arts festival runs for a weeklong and brings in entertainment to the main part of town for all to enjoy. Shop Street, the main street in Galway, is filled with art, music, dance, and many more types of talent. So, as of right now, Galway is packed with tons of people! The nightlife is going to be crazy! We sat in Aires Square to see an amazing acrobatic show. Two very strong men lifted each other up and all around on this huge spinning wheel. It was unreal! It was like something you would see in the show Cirque du Soleil.
After seeing the show, Liam took me to salt hill for a romantic dinner and a nice night stroll. Salt Hill is a suburb of Galway, and it is a small beach with a nice long walking path. The song Galway Girl (a popular one for Americans, also in the movie P.S. I love you) reflects on this suburb in Galway quoting,
"Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Round the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl"
I love this song!
Salt hill was beautiful. The night was pure and it was nice to see some more beautiful sites of Galway with him. We also went to a romantic restaurant in Salthill, where we had a glass of wine and a delicious meal!
The day was well spent, and one that I will remember forever. To see the sun light up the green fields reminded me it was summer and the livin is easy!
Only a few days left here, so I know I need to live it up!My plan is to go to Dublin again for a night to go to the Guinness factory!
I'll fill all of you in soon!
