A Monday afternoon about 18degrees and I'm back in San Fran. This time a different part of town. I'm staying Downtown near union square and I've just pulled up a chair to take in the biggest Christmas tree I've ever seen.
Decorated with red and gold baubles it just looks class.
I got a lift back up to San Fran with Jim. www.jimfield.co.uk totally blown away by his work. He showed me some proofs he had back from the printers of his new children's book. Absolutely stunning work and well worth a visit to his website.
We went out to dinner last night and I had my first scary taxi driver experience.
I hail a cab and ask for mission district. The cab driver appeared to be friendly and it was one of those proper American yellow cabs the sort you see in New York.
We drive 3 blocks and I glance in my wallet to realise I've only bought out 10bucks. Oops. No problem (I thought) so I leant forward and asked for him to stop at the nearest ATM.
Now imagine if I'd just happy slapped him with a trout. He went mental!
"AyAYAY!!! I am a business!! I am a business!! you pay me now!"
He clearly didn't understand me.
The guy was of Mexican decent (not that that should matter) and before I even had time to say
"Hey gringo take it easy compadre!" he'd locked the doors and I was trapped.
"No! I need to get cash out!?? I'll pay you!" (Uh oh this is escalating quickly)
- For the purposes of the blog anything (in brackets) is what (I'm thinking) in my (head) -
So the guy locks the doors and I'm trapped.
"You going to pay!?" He shouts. (Oh sh*t)
At this point I look at the meter and it says $4.50 (WTF) and i'd literally been in the cab less than a minute.
(This is a pretty expensive ride and I didn't remember stepping into a limo)
Then he says "I call the police, and you pay" (He's calling my bluff. He's a con artist and he probably does this to all the tourists.)
"Easy duchess!" So I handed him $5 and told him to keep the change!!!
(You filthy animal)
Another lesson learnt. Don't get in a cab without enough dollar Gregory.
On reflection it was a pretty fun way to lose $5. My Bart ride was much more enjoyable.
After an eventful start to the evening I made it to the mission district and met with Jim, Valle and Christian. We went to a Vietnamese restaurant and it was delish!
(Mmmm)
Today I'm going to plan my train ticket down to L.A and maybe go check out the giants stadium but before I need to watch a total funboy fall over on the artificial ice rink one more time.
Ok I'm a sadist but it's funny to watch.
Ciao for now.
