Day two and I headed down for brekky. Got chatting to a Finnish guy and he seemed pretty cool, although I think I offended him when I tried to pronounce his name "auntie" ?
I don't know..
So I headed out and along the waterfront again up to pier 39. Yup doing the "tourist stuff" and had a wonder around to see if I could see what the piers so famous for.
I got the first whiff as the wind started to pick up and then the stench was horrifying. OAOOO OAOOO OAOOO OAO OAO Sea lions! Got a few snaps and got my first glance at Alcatraz.
You can see Alcatraz from the end of the pier. Looks a pretty nice place to me. Kind of looks like some billionaires luxury island and must have a fair few fancy restaurants on ;)
It looks an easy swim across, probably about a mile, the weather was good enough to give it a go but I forgot my speedos.
I booked onto The San Francisco sight seeing bus tour which was $36 and well worth it. The open top vintage bus, with a loud engine and universal studios feel, took me around the whole city. Some of the sights included haight ashbury, union square, the cable car trams, fishermans wharf, the painted ladies and the Golden Gate Bridge...
It's a pretty big bridge but really don't see what all the fuss is about. The Oakland bay bridge is far more impressive. It's to the east of the bay and is the longest and most expensive suspension bridge in the USA (and even the world) and deserves much more of the limelight.
The bus tour also went over to a place called salsaulito... A nice quaint town and a millionaires playground awash with swanky shops and expensive super cars.
It's just north of golden gate and the houses are built into the coastal cliffs. It's got a real "OC"feel to the place and the people there are as beautiful as the houses. (Botex central)
Overall a stunning place worth a visit, a really chilled out vibe.
