once my sisters and my dad flew from Paris home and Mum and took the train from Paris to London. In the few short days we were there before my return to Paris we managed to pack in a lot. We spent the day shopping in Oxford Circus and Covent Garden, traipsing through the vintage stores and markets. The markets were going crazy with souvenirs as the wedding was only a day away!Thursday night was the Lion King at the Lyceum theatre - AMAZING. I think i want to move to London just to go to the theatre every week...even though it was my 3rd time seeing the Lion King, it was even better to see on the West End. We followed the tradition of having a pre theatre meal in an english pub in leicester square right before the show.
The day of the Royal wedding was madness!! every corner of the city had english flags up and royal wedding specials in every restaurant and store. Amazingly both Anna and Miles were in London for the Wedding as well so we arranged to meet up. After waiting for 40 minutes in front of Marble Arch tube feeling very abandoned Miles and Anna finally found me! We made our way to Hyde Park with the thousand other people who had come to watch the wedding on the big screen. People with flags and costumes and lots of booze covered the park as we watched the procession and joined in the cringes when will got the ring stuck on Kates hand. haha. we waited urgently for at least an hour to watch them kiss and cheered as the planes flew over us. The whole atmosphere of London was amazing and every one was out in the streets partying very hard. I was going to go back to Miles place with Anna in Pimlico but unfortunately he is very geographically challenged and the two hours I had to spare were the entire walk from hyde park!! I met my mum back to the hostel to see her back to the airport and then made my way to Piccadilly Circus for the highlight of my London stay...LES MISERABLES!!! With a seat in the stalls close to the action it was the best professional show i had ever seen. As i expected I cried in the end. To celebrate the wedding the actors playing cosette and maurius came out to bow with wills and kate masks which was hysterical. the voices and the set were amazing. I could watch it again and again.
My final day in London before taking the eurostar back to Paris for 10 days was spent in Camden Town. The camden markets are there and they are huge! there are at least three large markets with antiques, food and great souvenirs and clothes. The best market was the stables markets which had been there since 1800. the vintage stores were great and I was able to get a pair of shorts and a black velvet skirt and velvet dress for 50 pounds! the atmosphere, clothes and markets in London are so great. I would have spent MUCH more time there if i could. But Paris is next!
